2026 Summer Intern, Grid Engineering & Analytics – Grid Substation Design

As a Grid Substation Design Intern, you will be supporting the substation design group with the goal of providing excellent quality work for our clients. 

This is a full-time, 10-week internship that begins in early June 2026.  Work may be done remotely from any U.S. location, or hybrid from our Reston, VA office.   At this time, we are unable to provide relocation nor housing assistance for this internship. Pay is expected to be $23 per hour.

  

As a Grid Substation Design Intern, you will: 

  • Assist with the design and preparation of substation design drawings and including:

    • Substation One Line and Three Line

    • Station General Arrangements & Sections

    • AC/DC Schematics

    • Substation Panel Layouts

    • Substation Panel Wiring

    • Electrical Details

    • Grounding Plan & Details

    • Conduit Plan & Details

    • Control Cubicle Layout, Sections, Cable Tray, Lighting, and Grounding

    • Low-Voltage AC Panels

    • Grounding Plan & Details

    • Lightning Protection

    • Illumination Plan & Details

  • Coordinate with other disciplines, and drafting disciplines to ensure quality deliverables

  • Participate in internal technical discussions, and project planning efforts

  • Apply client standards related to the work  

Interns may or should have: 

  • The ability to work with and understand technical concepts, while also being able to communicate them to non-technical personnel 

  • Basic knowledge of the electric grid 

  • Strong organizational skills 

  • Strong skills and capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours is required preferably in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of power systems 

  • Advanced user of Microsoft products, specifically Word and Excel

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$34,564.00 - $58,758.00
