Department Summary

We are a team of highly experienced and collaborative bioinformaticians and we are seeking a qualified intern to help us leverage state of the art AI for healthcare. Your work will involve research and development of AI based bioinformatics applications for multiple kinds of biological data, particularly next-generation sequencing (NGS). Working on the crossroads of state of the art in AI and bioinformatics will equip you with the skills and experience of applying AI in improving patients’ lives.

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site.  

The Opportunity

  • Collaborate with experts for multiple applications to understand and analyze biological data 

  • Explore multiple biological foundation models for biological applications feature engineering (particularly sequencing data analysis)

  • Validate the models through further machine learning for the downstream tasks of interest 

  • Attend meetings, work collaboratively and communicate the findings to the project stakeholders through documentation and presentations

  • Ensure that the work is done under version control and is reproducible

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. 

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are 

Required Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
 

-Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)

-Must have attained a Master's Degree

-Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)

Required Majors:
Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in a programming language (Python is preferred)

  • Machine learning expertise, particularly in deep learning

  • Ability to work in a Unix-like environment on an HPC compute cluster

  • Strong algorithmic and problem solving skills

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.

  • Experience with analyzing biological data, particularly sequencing data is a plus.

  • Experience with biological foundation models is a plus but not required.
     

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. 
 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 hour.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
