Lab Summary: The Standards & Mobility Innovation team is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users. Our research focuses on:

  • Wireless standards and technology including 5G/6G, Wi-Fi, FiRa/UWB, MPEG, AOM, CSA Matter, CSA ACWG, CCC, etc
  • RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases
  • Multimedia standards and technology including VR, HDR, All-IP delivery
  • IoT standards and Smart Home connectivity/sensing technology

Position Summary:  Join the SMI lab of Samsung Research America to contribute to the development of Samsung's vision of next generation of wireless communication and sensing technology.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform research for next generation cellular phone (i.e., UE device) focusing on learning approaches on network characteristics and/or usage before to optimize the UE performance
  • Perform data collection (including scenario design) and analyze the logs to verify phenomenon and develop solutions, which may include prototype implementation and evaluation.
  • Take conceptual ideas and convert them into technical requirements and specifications of new features
  • Design, implement and verify algorithms, via simulations or prototyping, based on technical requirements and specifications
  • Work within cross-functional, cross-divisional teams and assist in the design, analysis and performance evaluation from concept to completion

Required Skills:

  • PhD student in EE / ECE preferred
  • Hands-on experience with mobile data collection and analysis is helpful
  • The ability to design experiments to collect data for problem formulation, root-cause analysis, solution development, and testing is preferred
  • Research experience with wireless communications standards (such as 3GPP standards (LTE and NR) and Wi-Fi) is preferred
  • Experience with Python and ML frameworks as well as related libraries such as Pandas is preferred
  • Familiarity with Android, Java, C, and C++
  • Solid background in wireless communication areas such as modulation, channel coding, digital signal processing, wireless communication systems design, filter theory, FFTs, synchronization, detection, equalization, MIMO, etc.
  • Experience implementing machine learning algorithms for solving challenging problems preferably in wireless connectivity and/or sensing system design
  • Proven skills in the simulation of cellular network or connectivity technologies, to derive tradeoffs and to predict performance in diverse channel conditions
  • Experience in system or link level simulations
  • Ability to clearly define high level requirements and criteria to be used in the evaluation of air interface technology alternatives
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts developed in the course of the work

Within the hourly pay rate range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.
