We're seeking an experienced Lead Member of Technical Staff to join our engineering team in Chennai. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to lead technical initiatives in modernizing our large-scale enterprise reporting platform, transitioning from monolithic OLTP architecture to cloud-native, self-service analytics. You'll work at the intersection of data modelling, cloud optimization, and full-stack development, directly impacting thousands of users. This position reports to the Senior Engineering Manager.
Team Summary
Our team is at the forefront of a transformative journey, modernizing athenahealth's enterprise reporting infrastructure. We're moving away from legacy monolithic systems toward a cloud-native, self-service analytics experience that empowers healthcare providers with real-time insights. The work encompasses data modeling excellence, query optimization at scale, cost and performance management, and leveraging LLMs to accelerate migration of complex SQL across dialects.
You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, product managers, and business analysts to deliver solutions that touch thousands of healthcare providers daily. Our tech stack includes Snowflake for data warehousing, Java and Node.js for backend services, React for frontend applications, PostgreSQL for transactional data, and AWS for cloud infrastructure. Essential Job Responsibilities
• Design and implement scalable data models in Snowflake, optimizing for performance and cost efficiency across multi-tenant architectures
• Develop full-stack solutions using Java/Node.js for backend services and React for frontend applications, ensuring seamless integration with data platforms.
• Deep knowledge on service-service authorization mechanisms via OAuth and other mechanisms. Knowledge on how RBAC policies work on a database like postgres.
• Architect and build web-stack solutions on AWS, implementing best practices for security, scalability, and reliability
• Lead technical design discussions and code reviews, mentoring team members on best practices and architectural patterns
• Collaborate with product and UX teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, balancing immediate needs with long-term platform vision
• Drive query and cost optimization initiatives and warehouse performance tuning to support analytics at scale.
• Partner with stakeholders to establish data governance standards and implement self-service analytics capabilities
Additional Job Responsibilities
• Contribute to the migration strategy from legacy SQL systems to modern data platforms, leveraging automation where possible
• Understand and collaborate with the Cloud Engineering org for onboarding and scaling the app via EKS
• Support the integration of analytics platforms like Sigma or equivalent tools into the technology ecosystem
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure platform reliability and performance
• Document architectural decisions and create technical specifications for complex features
• Contribute to the engineering community through knowledge sharing sessions and technical presentations
• Assist in evaluating new technologies and tools that could enhance our data and analytics capabilities
• Embrace help of AI and coding assistants and willing to work on perl based monolithic stack. Multiple coding assistants with access to Frontier models will be available for all engineers.
• Demonstrated knowledge of consistently leading a large feature that is a collection of multiple stories and tasks.
• Ability to mentor junior developers in the areas of security and privacy but not limited to this.
• Demonstrated ability of reviewing others code with empathy and yet uncompromising on security and privacy.
• Ability to balance stakeholder commitments vs code quality. Ability to articulate reality and find a way forward.
Expected Education & Experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 8-12 years of experience in software development with focus on enterprise-scale applications
• Strong expertise in data modelling
• Expertise in Snowflake or an equivalent cloud platform like Databricks - architecture, including warehouse optimization techniques
• Proficiency in full-stack development with Java and/or Node.js for backend, and React for frontend development.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases in production environments
• Demonstrated knowledge of AWS services and building cloud-native web applications
• Nice to have - Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration concepts
• Nice to have - Familiarity with analytics platforms such as Sigma or similar business intelligence tools
