Instrumentation Drive Specialist

Location: IKO Glass Fiber Inc., Chester, SC   Department: Maintenance  Type: Full Time (FT/PT/Cont)

WHEN YOU JOIN US YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE TO;

Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation Systems & Calibration

  • Install, configure, calibrate, and maintain industrial instrumentation, including:
    • Flow, pressure, temperature, and level measurement devices
    • Analog (4–20 mA) and digital field instrumentation
    • Smart transmitters and sensors from vendors such as SICK, VEGA, Endress+Hauser, and Banner
  • Perform precision calibration, loop checks, and validation testing to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to signal integrity, wiring faults, grounding, and device failures.
  • Maintain and update instrumentation documentation, calibration records, and loop diagrams.

Motor Systems & Drive Technology

  • Serve as the technical lead for motor performance and drive system reliability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot motor health systems, including:
    • Vibration, temperature, and current monitoring
    • Feedback devices and protective circuits
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Siemens G120 and S120 Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), including:
    • Drive commissioning and replacement
    • Parameter configuration and optimization
    • Fault diagnostics and root cause analysis
  • Optimize drive performance to improve energy efficiency, process control, and equipment lifespan.

Electrical & Signal Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving instrument loops, control signals, and motor-drive interactions.
  • Interpret and work from:
    • P&IDs
    • Loop sheets and instrument index documentation
    • Electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ensure proper integration between field instrumentation, drives, and control systems (PLC/DCS interfaces).

Commissioning & Project Support

  • Support instrumentation and drive-related activities for capital projects and system upgrades.
  • Assist with:
    • Installation planning and execution
    • Coordination with engineering, contractors, and OEM vendors
    • Pre-startup safety reviews and system readiness verification
  • Execute loop checks, functional testing, and commissioning of instrumentation and drive systems.
  • Ensure proper configuration and performance validation prior to startup.

Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive initiatives to improve:
    • Measurement, accuracy and consistency
    • Motor and drive system reliability
    • Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)
  • Identify and implement improvements in instrumentation standards, calibration practices, and drive performance.
  • Support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies for instrumentation and rotating equipment.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all work complies with:
    • Plant safety standards
    • Electrical codes and best practices
    • Company policies and procedures
  • Support safe work practices including LOTO, arc flash safety, and process safety requirements.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE;

  • Associate’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in industrial instrumentation and/or drive systems
  • Strong technical expertise in:
    • Industrial process instrumentation and calibration
    • Analog and digital signal troubleshooting (4–20 mA, discrete I/O)
    • Motor operation, protection, and condition monitoring
    • Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) installation and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret:
    • P&IDs
    • Loop diagrams and instrument documentation
    • Electrical schematics
  • Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting and diagnostic capability in industrial environments

Preferred

  • Experience with Siemens G120 and S120 drive systems
  • Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, or plant shutdowns
  • Familiarity with PLC/DCS systems as they relate to instrumentation and drive interfaces
  • Experience in continuous manufacturing environments (fiberglass, paper, chemical, or similar)

Understanding of process control fundamentals and loop tuning
