Zack Box Student Assistant

Berklee College of Music - Boston Part time

In order to participate in Berklee Student Employment, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.

  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).

  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.

  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.

  • Federal Work Study student may apply.

  • In good disciplinary standing.

  • Must be located in the U.S.

Zack Box Assistants will help support all Zack Box productions during their time in the space and assist with regular maintenance work calls to ensure the Zack Box is always in a production ready state. This is a great opportunity for learning more about the technical side of theatrical productions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicating regularly with the Technical Director about schedule, maintenance needs, and technical questions as they arise

  • Helping faculty and student groups load in and out of the space

  • Assisting student productions in writing sound and lighting cues during tech

  • Training designated light and sound board operators during tech

  • Assisting in resetting the space for classes at the end of the work call

  • Leading strike following the final performance of each production

  • Communicating with fellow Zack Box Assistants to ensure all work calls have the coverage and support that they require

  • Enforcing the policies and procedures of the Production Department

  • Assisting in general maintenance of the space

  • Painting, cleaning, organizing, etc.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Must be organized, punctual, and have strong communication skills

  • Must have strong leadership skills

  • Must be willing to learn new things and able to follow instructions

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Previous production experience is helpful, but not required

  • Comfortable climbing ladders and working at heights up to 12’

  • Knowledge of, or interest in learning about Qlab and lighting software (ETC ION XE)

Hourly Rate: $16.48
