About ESP Specialty Insurance

SPG Sports and Entertainment Insurance is a leading specialty brokerage firm focused on the sports and entertainment industry, bowling centers, family entertainment centers (FECs), and related risk categories. Operating under four brands — ESP Specialty, Insurance Allies, Sadler Sports, and Jones Birdsong — we serve clients across the country with deep market expertise and long-standing carrier relationships. Our team is built on entrepreneurial drive, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to our clients.

Internship Overview

Are you passionate about football and looking to launch a career in specialty insurance? ESP Specialty Insurance’s Youth & Amateur Football Internship offers hands-on experience supporting one of the largest youth and amateur football insurance programs in the country. You’ll work alongside our Sports & Entertainment team, learning the full lifecycle of a sports insurance account — from underwriting submissions and policy issuance to claims coordination and risk management. Our football clients include youth leagues, high school programs, semi-pro and arena leagues, and governing bodies at the regional and national level. This is a rare opportunity to combine a passion for the sport with a high-growth career path in specialty insurance.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the account management team with policy renewals, coverage comparisons, and new business submissions for youth and amateur football clients

  • Assist with underwriting data collection, exposure analysis, and submission preparation for football programs and league accounts

  • Help coordinate with carrier partners, and others on coverage placement and endorsements

  • Draft renewal comparison letters, coverage summary emails, and proposal packages under supervisor guidance

  • Log and maintain account activity in the agency system, tracking key renewal dates and open items

  • Research and compile league and association data to support prospecting and new business development

  • Complete a defined intern project — such as a market analysis or client outreach initiative — and present findings to leadership at the end of the summer

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Marketing, or a related field (rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior preferred)

  • Genuine interest in football (playing, coaching, officiating, or fan-level passion for the sport) — no prior insurance experience required

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to correspond professionally with clients and carriers

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines simultaneously

  • Self-starter with a collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn a technical, specialized industry

  • Customer-first mindset and high ethical standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with CRM tools is a plus

  • Familiarity with football league structures, governing bodies (Pop Warner, NFHS, USA Football), or sports administration is a meaningful advantage

What You’ll Learn

  • How specialty insurance programs for youth and amateur football are structured, priced, and placed

  • The roles of admitted vs. surplus lines carriers and how ESP accesses specialty markets for sports risks

  • How to build and manage an insurance submission from exposure gathering through binding coverage

  • Participant accident medical insurance — a core product for sports leagues — including coverage triggers, limits, and claims coordination

  • How claims are handled in a sports context, including pre-litigation protocols and carrier communication

Schedule

This is a paid, full-time summer internship. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexible scheduling may be considered for students with academic obligations.
