Job Description:

A Day in the life of a Finning Engine Preparation Engineer can involve pre delivery inspections and customisations across the Caterpillar range of engines. This is fast paced with fixed deadlines to meet customer demands. Due to this the required work schedule can often change and the successful candidate will need to be flexible and reactive. 

As a Finning Engineer you will receive:

Major Job Functions

Carry out pre delivery inspection on new engines to customer specification using our engine preparation order including engine conversions to the agreed work plan, removing and dispatching components for specialist attention, re-installing the original or replacement parts.

Overview of responsibilities

• Complete all health and safety pre-work documentation and liaise with the customer service team to provide the very best customer experience.

• Carry out the safe in-depth pre-delivery inspection and engine preparation.

Proactively identify improvements that can be made relating to health and safety, facilities, and engine preparation processes. Recorded through our Logincident reporting system.

• Identify any parts required and clearly communicate to the service control team and execute the preparation to the highest possible standards.

•Liaising with the Customer Service Controller to communicate any engine preparation issues and updates on progress

• Keep the workshop and work area in a clean and orderly condition while working to CAT contamination control guidelines, Branch Star Rating and keeping yourself and colleagues safe.

What to expect
• You will work within the workshop in a small team, but will be responsible for the completion of your own allocated engines
• You will be issued a phone, laptop (with main dealer standard diagnostic software) and a range of specialist tooling will be available from the tool stores. You will be expected to have your own hand tools.
• It is expected of you to travel to and from work by your own arrangements.
• Due to the large product range there will be new challenges and experiences on a regular basis.

• Deep understanding of the use of general service manuals and computerised Service Information    System (SIS) from the OEM

• Practical knowledge of tooling and specialised equipment to carry out the pre delivery inspection on new engines

• Practical knowledge of rigging, slinging and jacking procedures

• Forklift licence desirable, or a desire for training

Knowledge

• Deep understanding of the use of general service manuals and computerised Service Information    System (SIS) from the OEM

• Practical knowledge of tooling and specialised equipment to carry out the pre delivery inspection on new engines

• Practical knowledge of rigging, slinging and jacking procedures

• Forklift licence desirable, or a desire for training

Qualifications
Qualifications ranging from NVQ, City and guilds or similar in mechanical engineering, with demonstratable skills and experience working with industrial engines or plant and heavy vehicles will be considered.

Formally apprentice trained considered.
