The Workday HCM Lead is responsible for the implementation, enhancement, and day-to-day operations of the company’s Human Capital Management system, Workday. This role partners closely with HR, IT, and business leadership to ensure the Workday ecosystem supports organizational goals, drives efficiency, and maintains data integrity and security. The ideal candidate combines strong technical proficiency in Workday with strategic insight into HR processes and digital transformation initiatives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the Workday HCM functional lead, managing Core HCM, Compensation, Advanced Compensation, Talent, Absence, Recruiting, Payroll, Benefits, and additional modules as adopted.
- Act as the main HRIS partner for HR Business Partners and Centers of Excellence, delivering consultative support and scalable solutions.
- Translate business requirements into effective system configurations and enhancements aligned with organizational needs.
- Lead solution assessment and validation, ensuring functional and technical specifications meet business objectives.
- Drive feature releases, upgrades, and configuration updates, maintaining system optimization and alignment with company strategy.
- Manage Workday business processes, security roles, and other configuration components to ensure operational excellence and compliance.
- Provide user support for Workday-related issues, ensuring timely resolution and an optimal user experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the Workday team, ensuring day-to-day operations, projects, and support tasks remain on schedule.
- Plan, allocate, and monitor team workloads, balancing priorities based on project timelines and resource capacity.
- Establish clear goals and performance standards for team members, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively across business units, acting as a liaison between management, HR, IT, and end users.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience configuring and supporting Workday HCM in multiple functional areas.
- Strong understanding of HR operations, employee data management, and end-to-end HCM workflows.
- Experience developing custom reports, calculated fields, and condition rules to meet complex business requirements.
- Proficiency in EIBs (Enterprise Interface Builder) and basic integration troubleshooting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and execute in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and data security.
Preferred
- Workday Pro Certification in Core HCM and/or Payroll (additional certifications a plus).
- Familiarity with Workday Finance, Adaptive Planning, and Integrations.
- Previous experience in the freight forwarding or logistics industry.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Human Resources, or a related field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and business partnership.
- Basic understanding of the freight forwarding industry and exposure to CargoWise One or similar logistics applications is advantageous.
