Job Description

The Financial Aid Office is recruiting for a student employee to serve as an assistant. The Financial Aid Office Student Assistant supports the daily operations of the Financial Aid department by serving as a first point of contact for students and visitors and helping ensure students receive accurate guidance regarding financial aid processes. The position exists to improve student access to financial resources by assisting with FAFSA completion, scholarship information, office support tasks, and maintaining organized records while upholding FERPA confidentiality standards. This role contributes to the department by supporting staff with front desk coverage, communication, data tracking, and outreach efforts such as orientations and campus events, helping the office operate efficiently during high-volume periods.

The position requires reliable attendance, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and flexibility to assist with occasional events or activities outside of normal office duties as needed

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Staff the front desk and assist students/visitors coming in with professional manner

  • Assist students file for the FAFSA and other types of Financial Aid including scholarships

  • Answer phones, greet students, take messages, and participate in department meetings when needed

  • Update and maintain spreadsheets to track students for various projects

  • Maintain Confidentiality (FERPA)

Qualifications:

  • Requires good communication, computer, and organizing skills

  • Must answer phones and talk with students in person regarding their financial aid questions.

  • Self-motivation, problem solving skills, and the ability to work well with others

Student Employment Eligibility:

Fall & Spring Semester Eligibility

  • Enrollment in at least 6 credits each regular semester; and

  • Be in a degree seeking program; and

  • Meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements:

  • 67% completion rate in the last enrolled semester

  • 67% cumulative completion rate

  • 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale

  • Have not exceeded the maximum number of credits allowed (90) or received two degrees

  • OR be on an approved appeal and on probation with an Academic Plan; and

  • Be authorized to work in the United States

Summer Eligibility - Students are eligible to work during the summer if they meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 6 summer credits; or

  • Successfully have completed the spring semester and enrolled in the required 6 credits for the fall semester (summer enrollment in this case is not required); and

  • Meet all Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements listed previously; and

  • Be authorized to work in the United States

Changes in Student Eligibility

Continued employment is contingent on maintaining eligibility. If a student’s eligibility changes their role may be subject to termination and/or they may be temporarily required to remain off work. If students’ eligibility is on hold pending the results of an appeal, students are required to remain off work until the appeal has been satisfactorily resolved.

Compensation: Student Employee - Level 1 $12-$15 an hour

Schedule

Scheduled and available hours may vary and are subject to change based on organizational needs.

Full-Time Equivalency

50% - 20 Hours Per Week

  • Students may not work during scheduled course times

  • Students may not work more than 20 hours per week (Sun-Sat) during academic periods in which they are enrolled (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring semesters)

  • Students may not work more than 28 hours per week (Sun-Sat) during break periods, in which they are not taking courses (summer break, winter break, and spring break)
