Job Summary:
The Pharmacy Resident is a pharmacist participating in an ASHP-accredited postgraduate training program(s) and is
expected to complete the program requirements including achieving the Competencies, Goals and Objectives (CAGOs)
published for their specific postgraduate year one (PGY1) or postgraduate year two (PGY2) residency in 12-months. The
program is individualized based on the resident's written development plan documented in PharmAcademic. Pharmacy
Residents also have the same general duties and responsibilities as other pharmacists.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Provides clinical pharmaceutical care to patients. Prevents, detects, and resolves medication-related
problems and makes appropriate evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy recommendations.
Participates as an effective member of interdisciplinary care team(s) and communicates follow-up with
team. Effectively verifies patient medication orders for appropriateness and accuracy. Provides effective
medication education to patients, families, team.
Enhances the quality of delivery of care. Actively participates in the development and implementation of
performance/quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, including medication event/adverse
reaction reporting & follow-up, clinical guideline development, disease management, medication use
evaluation/improvement, cost containment actions. Represents pharmacy services on institutional/practice
area committees, quality unit councils. Conducts monthly unit inspections of assigned area.
Demonstrates proficiency in pharmacy distributive services. Demonstrates quality, safety and efficiency in
the distribution process. Actively collaborates and demonstrate teamwork with pharmacy coworkers to
ensure communication, excellent customer service, safe and effective drug distribution. Provides oversight
for pharmacy technicians. Participates in opportunities to improve the quality, effectiveness, and/or
efficiency in distributing medications.
Supports the education and professional development of the Pharmacy Department and other hospital
disciplines (nursing/medical/etc.). Precepts residents, pharmacy students, or pharmacy technicians as
assigned. Participates collegially in the development of new programs, services, and practices, educational
activities of the pharmacy department and medical team.
Engages in professional self-development. Completes medical center/pharmacy competency requirements
by deadlines. Establishes regular meetings with manager. Enhances professional and technical
knowledge/competency by attending seminars, continuing education programs, department meetings, etc.
Demonstrate active membership/service/leadership in professional organizations.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Pharmacy-Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- RPH - Reg Pharmacist or RPH-P - Reg Pharmacist Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
