Senior Director, Strategic Operations -Utilities

Reporting to Chief of Staff, Utilities

The Senior Director, Strategic Operations is a critical leadership role within the Utilities Chief of Staff Office, serving as an extension of the President, Utilities, and a key partner to the Chief of Staff.  This role is responsible for maximizing executive effectiveness, driving enterprise-wide alignment, and ensuring the President’s strategic priorities translate into disciplined execution and sustained value creation. This leader drives execution across high-impact initiatives, orchestrates leadership processes and decision flow, supports strategic planning, and strengthens operating discipline across the Utilities organization.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership, Decision Support & Chief of Staff Partnership

  • Act as a thought partner and trusted proxy for the President, Utilities, helping prioritize issues, frame decisions, and ensure effective follow-through across the leadership team.

  • Shape agendas, materials, and decision frameworks for senior leadership forums, ensuring clarity of purpose, ownership, and outcomes.

  • Identify emerging risks, leadership misalignment, and organizational friction points; proactively surface and resolve sensitive or high-stakes issues requiring judgment and discretion.

  • Support the Chief of Staff in driving coherence across enterprise priorities, managing competing demands, and maintaining focus on what matters most.

  • Strategic Growth & Enterprise Impact

  • Support enterprise and multi-year strategic planning efforts; translate growth strategies into executable initiatives and measurable outcomes.

  • Evaluate growth opportunities through financial, operational, and strategic lenses; develop insights and recommendations to inform executive decision-making.

  • Monitor performance against growth objectives, identifying risks, tradeoffs, and optimization opportunities.

  • Surface enterprise-level implications, interdependencies, and second-order effects to improve decision quality and long-term outcomes.

Execution, Alignment & Operating Cadence

  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps; track progress, dependencies, and barriers to execution.

  • Partner with executive and senior leaders to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely delivery of outcomes.

  • Shape and support leadership operating rhythm, including preparation and follow-up for leadership meetings, offsites, and strategic reviews.

  • Hold leaders accountable for commitments, elevating tradeoffs, risks, and escalation points as needed.

Insights, Communication & Advisory

  • Develop executive-level materials, analyses, and narratives related to growth initiatives, strategic performance, and operational results.

  • Identify performance gaps; proactively engage leaders to course-correct and improve results.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the Chief of Staff and President, Utilities, providing objective insight and sound judgment.

  • Synthesize complex issues into concise, decision-ready recommendations for executive and Board-level audiences.

Continuous Improvement & Organizational Effectiveness

  • Drive continuous improvement in executive processes, decision-making frameworks, and cross-functional ways of working.

  • Promote collaboration, integration, and disciplined execution across the Utilities organization.

  • Strengthen leadership effectiveness and organizational health by improving clarity of priorities, decision flow, and accountability norms.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, operations, corporate development, or enterprise leadership roles; Master’s preferred.

  • Track record of leading strategic growth, transformation, or investment-driven initiatives with measurable business impact.

  • Strong executive presence, high EQ, and ability to build trust quickly across levels.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.

  • Demonstrated success operating in close partnership with C-suite leaders on enterprise-wide priorities.

We offer a competitive salary range of $214,000-$300,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
