WGL - Environmental Specialist
Join a dynamic, solutions-driven team where no two days are the same. As an Environmental Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring environmental compliance in supporting permitting construction projects from start through execution. You’ll collaborate with engineers, construction managers, and regulators to keep projects compliant, on schedule, and environmentally responsible.
What You’ll Do:
Lead environmental compliance across water, wastewater, stormwater, erosion control, and permitting programs
Review construction plans, coordinate permits (local, state, federal), and ensure readiness for project start
Conduct site inspections, deliver training, and participate in pre-construction meetings
Prepare and write environmental compliance plans to support project execution and regulatory requirements
Monitor regulatory changes, identify risks, and implement proactive solutions
Maintain accurate compliance records and interface with agencies like DEQ, MDE, DOEE, EPA, and USACE
Participate in on-call rotation for incident response and corrective actions
What We’re Looking For:
3+ years of environmental compliance experience in construction, consulting, or utilities
Knowledge of Clean Water Act, NPDES, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management
Strong communication, critical thinking, and documentation skills
Ability to train teams and influence compliance practices
Nice to Have: GIS skills, construction management experience, contractor oversight
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field

We offer a competitive salary range of $79,200 to $114,975 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
