This is a unionized positionThe Construction & Maintenance Department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Company’s natural gas distribution system.
The successful candidate must fully demonstrate specified welding competencies within twelve (12) months of acceptance of the position and is subject to periodic competency testing.
This position reports to our North Durham Operations Center located in Durham, North Carolina.
This position has two levels (Welder-Trainee and Welder A) which allows for progression over time.
Required High School or equivalent (i.e., GED)
Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is strongly preferred OR the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of employment is preferred.
Position works within a crew structure and/or as a floating welder.
Welding duties are performed while utilizing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
Work is performed primarily outside in varying weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.)
Position requires continuous travel throughout the service territory with frequent stops, entering/exiting the company vehicle, safely parking in a wide variety of situations, and driving in construction zones.
Position may encounter agitated/irate customers.
Balancing, bending and stooping, climbing, crawling, carrying (up to 80 pounds), grasping, kneeling, lifting (up to 80 pounds), pulling hand over hand, pushing, reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, sitting, standing, walking, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement.
Ability to: understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions or other information, understand complex problems and collaborate/explore alternative solutions, organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology, organize and prioritize work schedule on a short-term basis, make decisions which have moderate impact on the immediate work unit and monitor impact outside this area, understand and follow basic instructions and guidelines, complete routine forms, compose letters, outlines, memoranda and basic reports and communicate with individuals via telephone.
Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.
