Job Summary

The Web Developer supports the university’s digital presence by developing, maintaining, and optimizing web properties within the university’s content management systems. This position bridges marketing and IT, ensuring our websites are functional, performant, accessible and optimized for search visibility. The Web Developer is a strong technical problem-solver with excellent communication skills and understanding of both backend development and frontend best practices. This role may assist with leading large development projects, including designing web application architecture, coding and ensuring complex site functionality, and requires in-depth knowledge of web-based programming languages.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Develops and maintains dynamic web templates, modules, and integrations within Modern Campus and Cascade CMS environments. Collaborates with marketing, communications, and IT teams to gather requirements, prioritize needs, and advise on site architecture, UX, caching and performance optimization.
  • Implements and manages data feeds (XML, JSON, API integrations) driving real-time or automated content updates across university sites.
  • Ensures web performance and SEO optimization, including Core Web Vitals, structured data, accessibility (WCAG) compliance, GEO optimization, and AI based performance enhancements.
  • Identifies issues from testing or user feedback, and resolves site or server problems directly, or coordinates with hosting providers and internal IT when needed.,
  • Maintains version control and deployment workflows in coordination with marketing and IT staff.
  •  Supports frontend development using HTML5, CSS3/SASS, JavaScript, and responsive design principles.
  • Monitors and manages Bootstrap library features and options that impact the Modern Campus CMS, documenting code and processes to ensure long-term maintainability
  • Stays current with emerging web technologies and programming practices through ongoing education and professional development, and advise teams on best practices for CMS usage, site architecture, user experience, caching and performance optimization.

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires either seven years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development, or related field and three years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Development.
  • Experience or familiarity with web configuration, server-side caching, and general hosting concepts.
  • Experience or familiarity working with RESTful APIs, XML, or JSON data feeds.
  • Experience with Modern Campus CMS, Cascade CMS, and/or WordPress. 
  • Proficiency with C#, PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. 
  • Understanding of SEO principles, site performance optimization, and analytics tracking (GA4, GTM). .
  • Experience using a ticketing or issue-tracking system.
  • Familiarity with Git, Azure, or other deployment workflows. 
  • Experience using REST API testing tools such as Postman or Bruno. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or a similar database management tool. 
  • Familiarity in SQL and understanding of relational database concepts. 
  • Experience with Visual Studio, VS Code, or comparable code editors. 
  • Knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards and structured data (schema.org). 
  • Experience in higher education or a complex organizational environment.

Salary Range: $61,000 - $68,200
