As a Water Resources, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Student, you will join our Calgary, Alberta office as part of our Western Surface Water Engineering team for a 4-month student position starting May 2026. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of projects with responsibilities as follows:

  • Perform tasks on various civil, environmental, and water resources engineering projects such as:

    • Field assessments, including: flow monitoring, topographic surveys, watercourse inventories, and sediment surveys

    • Construction site inspections

    • Assessment of erosion protection and sediment control measures

    • Preparing report figures and design drawings

    • Analyze, assess, and interpret data for hydrologic and hydraulic analysis studies

    • Hydrologic and hydraulic calculations

  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and technical reports, technical specifications for engineering designs and cost estimates

  • Willing to travel and undertake field work across Alberta

  • Promote and comply with Montrose Health and Safety policies and procedures

What We Are Looking For

  • Must be enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering program at a recognized post-secondary institution.

  • Basic understanding of open channel and pipe flow hydraulics, stormwater management system design, river engineering, and surveying methods will be considered an asset.

  • Aptitude to work with various computer applications and modelling software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, Arcview GIS, QGIS, EPA SWMM, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS will be considered as asset.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Self-starter, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to learn and grow.

  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record.

This is a permanent position with an hourly rate range of $21.00-27.00, starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location.
