This is a part-time regular laborer position in the Wastewater Collections Section of the Provo City Public Works Department. Civic-minded individuals interested in supporting the citizens of Provo City by providing the services described herein are strongly encouraged to apply.

What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending upon skill level and experience.

What will I do?

  • Operate power rodding equipment of various sizes to clear lines.

  • Operate television viewing and sealing equipment to detect sewer line leaks and obstructions.

  • Seal leaks with packaging unit.

  • Operate jet cleaning unit to clean lines, ditches and culverts.

  • Locate access points with metal detectors and inspection of maps.

  • Raise manholes to grade.

  • Clean homes or other buildings following sewer backups.

  • Keep equipment and shop area clean.

  • Assemble safety pipes.

  • Cut roots, grease, and other obstructing materials.

  • Perform minor maintenance and repair of electrical parts on TV truck.

  • Assist other departments needing jet machine.

  • Perform field sampling.

  • Assist other crew members and the public as needed and perform other related duties as required.


What requirements do I need to apply?

  • Any training and/or experience that would demonstrate an ability to successfully perform the duties of the job.

  • Valid, lawful driver license.

  • Preference given to candidates with a commercial driver's license.

What are the physical and environmental factors?

This work requires walking, driving trucks, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 100 lbs., climbing in and out of manholes, and exposure to the following: confined spaces, adverse weather conditions, odors, heavy traffic, hazardous conditions, and may periodically involve high-stress situations or environments.

What is the schedule?

Twenty-five hours a week between the hours of 6:00 AM and 4:30 PM. Monday through Thursday.

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on May 6, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
