Key Responsibilities:

The Safer Smarter Schools Project supports Papua New Guinea’s national education reform, including the 1–6–6 school restructuring, which focuses at improving student retention, completion, and learning outcomes from Preparatory through to Grade 12. WVPNG together with government and development partners is implementing a multi-sectoral education programme designed to improve and strengthen students safety, wellbeing, resilience and inclusion .

The purpose of this role is to support all the proposed WASH initiatives in schools, responding directly to the challenges outlined in Section 2.1 by strengthening school safety, resilience, and learner wellbeing through an integrated, multisectoral approach grounded in global standards and aligned with national education priorities .

Lead in the planning, mobilization and assessment of WASH status in schools.

  • Prepare monthly Activity plans

  • Arrangement for logistics for field trips

  • Coordinate the implementation of field activities

  • Mobilize the participation of teachers and school going pupils in WASH interventions.

Mobilize and organize the target School hygiene clubs for Water and Sanitation promotion activities.

  • Build reputation and good relationship with the community leaders, school boards and pupils 

  • Disseminate appropriate WASH information to the schools and target audiences.

Awareness-raising with students, parents, teachers, and community leaders to address misconceptions, strengthen demand, and promote positive health-seeking behaviors.

  • Teachers and students whose capacity has been built and are able to take charge of the sanitation and health issues.

  • Functional hygiene clubs established.

Behavior change initiatives and school-based Impact Clubs will further promote good WASH practices, improved nutrition, healthy lifestyles, violence prevention, and disaster risk management, fostering peer learning, youth leadership, and community-level advocacy. 

  • Build public relationship and coordination with education and health the stakeholders and local authorities.

  • Impact clubs/sanitation and hygiene clubs formed and trained,

Conduct workshop, trainings and related capacity building activities to project stakeholders and the target communities.

  • Teachers and School leadership capacity development trainings carried out to strengthen the integration of inclusive practices, effective WASH operations and maintenance, and climate-resilient strategies within School Learning and Improvement Plans (SLIPs).

  • Active engagement with parents, communities, and school boards will promote local ownership, cultural relevance, and long-term sustainability, contributing to resilient, safe, and healthy school environments.

  • Arrange and organize for meetings according to the planned activities

  • carry out Teacher training and school leadership development session that strengthens the integration of inclusive practices, effective WASH operations and maintenance, and climate-resilient strategies within School Learning and Improvement Plans (SLIPs).

  • Active and engaged parents, communities, and school boards that promote local ownership, cultural relevance, and long-term sustainability, contributing to resilient, safe, and healthy school environments.

Report writing and Evidence based documentation of project Impact

  • Compile activity reporting forms

  • Complete Monthly Management Reports

  • Manager supported in the production of narrative reports on implemented activities

  • Produce quality impact stories from the field

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • A certificate or diploma in Water Supply and Sanitation , Environmental health , Community Development or any related field

  • 3 years in Development Work either in the private or public sector, minimum of 2 year in community mobilizing role

  • Experience in community organizing and emergency response is an advantage

  • Experience in health and hygiene promotion programs or water supply and sanitation especially in schools.

  • Good computer skills

  • Reliable activity Planning and coordinating skills

  • Must poses training and facilitation skills
