Job Summary:
Manage daily warehouse functions including staffing, material handling, safety, compliance, documentation, and reporting. This includes but is not limited to the areas of shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:
● Ensure supervisors are training, evaluating and monitoring new hires to determine satisfactory completion of probationary period as well as monitoring existing team member performance and SOP compliance expectations are met to minimize damage and follow proper trailer loading and unloading procedures
● Assist with budget development and operate within budget while identifying opportunities for cost control
● Ensuring tasks are completed neatly, completely, accurately, and timely
● Create an environment of accountability and engagement for individual and team performance through analyzing and communicating metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement and solutions
● Audit and analyze all warehouse data, reports and paperwork pertaining to staffing, receiving, shipping, inventory, production, attendance, temperature readings and to ensure delivery schedules were met
● Strategically analyzing shifts to ensure schedules and deadlines are met
● Developing a deep understanding of the organization’s business, industry, products and processes, short and long-term objectives
● Champion strategic initiatives, implement best practices and monitor the fair and equitable application of policies, procedures, and practices
● Recommend and support recognition programs, announcements and awards for outstanding performance; Provide timely recognition and communication of team members achievements
● Monitoring systems and department functions to ensure accuracy, efficiency, compliance, profitability, proper material handling, and minimal damage
● Analyze systems, KPI (Key Performance Indicators) and safety to ensure accuracy, efficiency, compliance, proper material handling, profitability with minimal damage and bring matters of concern to the General manager
● Implement industry “best practices” for receiving procedures and practices in coordination with other Operations areas
● Actively engage and motivate team members through daily visibility in the warehouse, frequently attending shift meetings and working as a warehouse team member several times a month to maintain operational skill sets
● Promote a safe workplace where individuals feel required to have a sense of duty for their safety and the safety of fellow team members; to include safe operation of equipment, reporting maintenance needs or unsafe conditions, following GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and SQF (Safe Quality Foods) standards and maintaining a neat and clean work environment free of hazards
● Audit Emergency Contact list for both team members and building conditions are up to date
● Understand the Emergency Procedures, ensure they are accessible and participate in update reviews
● Help control the OSHA Incident Rate (OIR) and Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) by monitoring sanitation, safe working conditions, ensuring safety policies are followed, holding pre-shift meetings and proper usage of material handling equipment
● Monitor/audit daily for GMP, COOL procedures (Country of Origin Labeling), HAACP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and other food safety guidelines
● Check computerized time/attendance on a daily basis to verify team members have the proper time clock punches in the system
● Ensure all team member forms for Time Adjustment, PTO requests, etc. are coordinated for staffing purposes and turned into HR timely for processing in the correct pay period
● Other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
● High school diploma or GED. College coursework, continuing technical education or comparable business experience preferred
● Warehouse experience preferred
● Experience operating Material Handling Equipment preferred
● Certifications in LEAN, Six Sigma, ISO 9001, etc. a plus
● Supervisory experience in a manufacturing/operations/warehouse environment required
Skills & Qualifications:
● Ability to apply strong math skills that result in identification of opportunities and justify action plan recommendations
● Possess strong people skills and the ability to provide clear and constructive feedback, coaching, and counseling
● Ability to inspire, motivate, train and supervise
● Ability to develop, understand, and manage budget
● Knowledge of warehouse management software preferred
● Broad knowledge of warehouse paperwork and procedures
● Ability to develop a deep understanding of the organization’s business, industry, products and processes, short and long-term objectives
● Basic knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) Hours of Service preferred
● Basic knowledge of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) preferred
● Ability to learn proprietary software
● Ability to remain calm and focused while prioritizing requests from multiple sources
● Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects in a collaborative environment
● Accuracy and attention to detail
● Able to read, write, speak and understand English
● Ability to read and understand label data
● Ability to utilize good hand-eye coordination and depth perception to operate forklift, reach truck, and HiLo safely and accurately
● Ability to take directions using the headset selection system (such as VoCollect)
● Ability to work at elevated heights while wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such as fall protection harnesses)
● Ability to accommodate flexible schedules to meet the needs of the customer to include nights, weekends and holidays
● Ability to utilize equipment for the job safely and accurately after training (such as computer, handheld tracker, copiers, scanners, printers, radio headsets, forklift, reach truck, etc.)
● Ability to Travel – approximately 10%
Physical Demands/Equipment:
● Independently lift up to 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally
● Able to sit, stand, walk bend, squat on a frequent to continual basis in a refrigerated warehouse environment
● Able to grasp, reach, push or pull (such as boxes of product, or a hand truck) on a frequent basis
● Able to step up onto and down from equipment as required by task (such as forklift, reach truck, etc.)
● Ability to reach above shoulder level frequently
● Ability to build pallets up to 6 feet tall with case weights up to 50 pounds
● Endurance for continuous, fast paced work
● Able to adjust to fluctuating temperatures and withstand freezing temperatures as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit
● Ability to work in a noisy warehouse environment
● Able to wear and communicate through headsets for long periods of time as required by location
● Ability to read small print on packaging and paperwork, with or without corrective lenses
● Able to work while wearing appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) for the job (such as steel-toed protective footwear, harness, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, insulated clothing, etc)
● Ability to handle and physically be near products which may contain food allergens (such as fish, shellfish, peanuts, etc.)
