WAN, LAN & Wi-Fi Network & Automation Engineer

As an Automation Network Engineer in our NLWAN Squad, you’ll work at the heart of ING’s Dutch network landscape — building highly resilient, secure, and automated network services. This role combines deep technical ownership with real impact: from datacenter connectivity to branch offices and customer networks, you’ll help shape the future of ING’s infrastructure while continuously improving how we work.

The team

You’ll join the NLWAN Squad, part of ING’s Global IT Infrastructure organization. The squad is responsible for the development, automation, and daily operations of all WAN, LAN, and Wi‑Fi services specific to ING in the Netherlands.

The team works in a collaborative, engineering‑driven way, closely aligned with other squads and stakeholders. Together, we deliver reliable network services for end users, customers, offices, third‑party locations, and datacenter‑to‑datacenter connectivity. Automation, standardization, and continuous improvement are at the core of our culture — with plenty of room to learn, experiment, and take ownership.

Roles and responsibilities

As an Automation Network Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and operating ING’s network services. Your day‑to‑day work includes:

• Designing network solutions by translating business requirements into scalable technical designs and implementation plans
• Developing and maintaining standardized, resilient, and highly automated network services
• Building and improving network automation for provisioning, configuration, compliance checks, and reporting
• Monitoring and improving availability and performance of network services
• Leading incident resolution and root cause analysis to drive structural improvements
• Preparing and deploying network changes safely and consistently
• Managing network assets and overseeing third‑party service delivery

• Design and automate network solutions using Python and/or Ansible
• Apply an engineering mindset with Git‑based workflows, CI/CD, and structured testing
• Work confidently with WAN/LAN (and preferably SD‑WAN) in complex enterprise environments
• Take ownership of incidents, improvements, and deliverables from start to finish
• Collaborate clearly with squad members, stakeholders, and suppliers
• Communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing
