Job Description:

Job Summary:

The College of the Coast and Environment WAE - Research Associate 1 will assist with the processing of environmental and industrial samples according to EPA and standard methods. The samples submitted to the WBAS lab typically have a 28 day shelf life, so samples must be processed quickly.The qualified candidate will assist the lab manager in maintaining lab supplies, chemical supply, stock chemical solutions and calibration solutions. They will also assist in sample preparation for nutrients, pigment analysis and metals analysis in a variety of water samples, soils and sediment samples. Data entry will be required for the multiple projects on going in the WBAS lab.

Job Responsibilities:

45% Assist in the sample preparation for the analysis of water, sediment and soil samples for routine analysis test following SOP protocols.

20% Prepare and maintain stock solutions and calibration and quality control standards.

20% Prepare and maintain stock solution and calibration and quality control standards used in the analysis of nutrients and metals.

5% Assist in the sample preparation, analysis, and report processing of plants, sediment and soil samples for carbon and nitrogen determinations.

5% Data entry into Excel spreadsheet templates.

5% Other duties as assigned by the WBAS lab manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a Science Degree.

Specific Experience: Experience in chemical laboratory procedures and using proper SOP protocol for cleaning laboratory materials. Familiar with auto pipettes for making calibration standards and quality control standards a plus. Familiar with the proper use of hydrochloric acid, Nitric acid and sulfuric acid for cleaning plasicware and glassware.
