VP, Work Design and Transformation

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision

  • Support the execution of business and experience strategy by translating it into practical workflows that blend human and artificial intelligence
  • Partner with Strategy leadership and key stakeholders to contribute to the growth and differentiation of Merkle's Work Design practice
  • Help define how AI tools, automation, and human expertise work together in modern operating models across different business functions
  • Encourage teams to think about complete processes, not just individual tasks, so AI integration creates measurable business value

Operating Model Design & Implementation

  • Design and roll out new operating models that effectively split work between people and AI tools
  • Lead workflow transformation workstreams that rebuild and improve business processes
  • Apply frameworks for deciding what work should be automated, what should be augmented, and what needs to stay human-led
  • Develop and refine reusable templates and methods for work redesign that apply across industries and functions

Change Management & Transformation

  • Lead change management workstreams within larger programs that help organizations shift to AI-augmented ways of working
  • Build skills in human-AI collaboration, so teams understand their new roles and how to work effectively with AI tools
  • Address workforce concerns about AI displacement while supporting reskilling and career evolution efforts
  • Partner with client-side leaders to support the design of new performance models, job structures, and career paths for teams working with AI

Client Engagement & Advisory

  • Advise senior client stakeholders on work transformation and the shift toward AI-augmented operations
  • Manage client engagements to redesign operating models and support AI-driven transformation programs
  • Contribute to thought leadership on the future of work and help position Merkle as a trusted partner for work transformation
  • Support revenue growth through participation in Work Design advisory services, transformation programs, and ongoing optimization work

Practice Development & Scale

  • Manage a team of work design specialists, transformation consultants, and change management professionals
  • Contribute to the development of proprietary methods including work ontologies, transformation approaches, and assessment frameworks
  • Collaborate with technology teams to embed work design principles in AI agent development and deployment
  • Establish and track metrics and measurement frameworks to demonstrate ROI from work transformation projects

Innovation & Future-Readiness

  • Stay current on emerging technologies and their implications for work design, including new AI capabilities, automation tools, and collaboration platforms
  • Support experiments with new work models and test approaches to human-AI collaboration prior to broader rollout
  • Engage with technology providers, research institutions, and industry groups to stay informed on the future of work agenda
  • Contribute to scenario planning so Merkle and our clients remain flexible and prepared for change

Qualifications

  •  10-12 years of experience in management consulting, organizational design, business transformation, or operational excellence
  • Demonstrated experience leading workstreams within major operating model transformations in complex, matrixed organizations
  • Solid knowledge in at least two of the following areas: organizational design, process reengineering, change management, workforce planning, or AI implementation
  • Experience engaging and advising senior client stakeholders on transformation initiatives
  • Ability to translate technology capabilities into business value through operational change
  • Working understanding of AI/ML capabilities and how they apply to business processes and workflows
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with ability to collaborate and influence across organizational levels
  • Experience contributing to the growth of new practices or service lines, with budget management experience
  • Advanced degree preferred (MBA, MS in Organizational Development, or related field)
  • Expertise in one or more industries, with ability to apply insights across verticals

Additional Information

The annual base salary range for this position is $197,225.00 - $280,000.00. Placement within the salary range is based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and other factors permitted by law.  Additionally, this position is eligible for discretionary incentive compensation.
