The VP IT Site Reliability Engineering leads a team responsible for supporting and stabilizing multiple systems and services, ensuring support, stability, and migration delivery is efficient and effective, putting intentional focus on process improvement using KPIs and metrics. This role provides support, technical guidance, coaching, and development for the team, and collaborates across IT and the business to Influence decisions and ensure clear, professional communication. This role will communicate and influence across IT and business including peers, leadership, and executive levels. Professionalism in communication, written and verbal, is critical. This role will stay current with modern technology trends and be forward thinking on how to balance modern technology with safe and reliable systems and services to optimize member and employee experience.
Essential Responsibilities:
- 20% Stability – Ensure team is positioned to provide 24/7/365 support for all systems under team purview by creating depth of support in system knowledge and skillset across team members. Develop contingency and succession plans with scalability and high availability in mind. Establish and oversee monitoring and observability tools, standards, and practices to improve KPIs and metrics, ensuring stability of systems. Build and maintain a proactive and robust monitoring plan. Ensure ITIL procedures are followed, and SLAs are adhered to.
- 20% Delivery – Guide creation, adoption, maturation, and maintenance of automation-first delivery pipelines. Partner with business, development, QA, and IT peers to align on goals and develop joint system roadmaps, meeting strategic objectives and reliability goals.
- 15% Process Improvement – Promote a culture of continuous improvement, optimization of processes, and reduction of waste. Use KPI measurements and other metrics to provide rational for improvement opportunities. Provide training opportunities to team members to ensure teams are prepared for future technology needs. Support the modernization of technologies and solutions. Stay up to date on current trends and emerging technology solutions.
- 15% Management/Coaching – Provide direct people management, coaching, and mentorship to members of the team. Ensure team members receive proper training, development opportunities, and effective/timely performance feedback. Ensure reskilling/upskilling align to organizational needs and to skills & strengths.
- 15% Governance - Ensure team members are adhering to governing policies, standards, and guidelines at organization and team level. Influence and drive department governance Initiatives. Commitment to protecting our membership by incorporating security and compliance in all decisions and seeking opportunities to improve our security posture.
- 15% Collaboration/Communication – Intentionally build and maintain strong IT, business, and vendor relationships with current and potential peers/partners. Ensure team is effectively managing key relationships. Hold teams and vendors accountable to defined SLAs and contractual commitments, while maintaining professional working relationship. Some financial management of vendor engagements and recurring cost may be required.
Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree
- 10 years of experience successfully leading technical teams focused on support, delivery, and continuous process improvement.
- Strong vendor collaboration experience, including governing and escalating concerns including but not limited to SLA adherence.
- Experience being accountable for department standards and guidelines including educating teams and governing adherence.
- Working experience communicating and influencing at team, peer, and leadership levels
- Strong working experience leading a support/delivery team in an organization that uses waterfall, mixed, and agile development processes and structures.
- Experience incorporating security and compliance in decisions and improving security posture.
Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Strong leadership experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) practices, monitoring, and incident response
- ITIL certification or strong working knowledge of ITIL practices
- Knowledge of coding techniques beyond simple scripts
- Financial industry experience
Job Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Onsite 2 or more days per week and for department and organization events
- Sitting for prolonged periods
- Computer use for prolonged periods
