Job Overview:

LPL is seeking a visionary and strategic Vice President, Principal Data Engineer to lead the development and execution of enterprise-wide data strategies and platforms that enable our digital transformation and growth objectives. This role combines technical leadership with executive strategy, ensuring that data is a trusted, accessible, and secure asset across the organization. You will partner with senior leadership, engineering, and product teams to define and implement a modern, scalable, and resilient data ecosystem leveraging cloud technologies, advanced data platforms, and governance frameworks. The VP will also mentor and inspire engineering teams, driving best practices and innovation across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and drive the enterprise data foundation strategy, aligning with LPL’s business objectives and digital transformation goals.

  • Architecture Oversight: Establish and maintain comprehensive data architecture roadmaps, including multi-year modernization and migration plans.

  • Data Platform Ownership: Lead the design and implementation of cloud-native, domain-driven data platforms optimized for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

  • Governance & Compliance: Implement robust data governance, metadata management, and lifecycle practices to ensure compliance and data quality.

  • Data Quality & Tooling: Drive enterprise adoption of data quality frameworks and tooling, including Data Catalog, Data Zone, and Brew, to enable trusted, discoverable, and well-managed data assets.

  • Innovation & Modernization: Champion modernization initiatives, including migration from legacy systems to AWS platforms (e.g., RDS, Aurora, Redshift).

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, product, and business teams to deliver secure, resilient, and scalable data solutions.

  • Emerging Technologies: Evaluate and incorporate emerging technologies, including event streaming, microservices, and serverless architectures.

  • Operational Excellence: Define KPIs and scorecards to measure adoption, performance, and cost optimization of data platforms.

  • Executive Communication: Translate complex technical concepts into actionable strategies for senior leadership and stakeholders.

What are we looking for?

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture and engineering, with at least 5+ years in AWS services.

  • Minimum of 8 years of leadership experience managing enterprise data platforms and engineering teams.

  • Proven expertise in AWS-native data solutions and cloud migration strategies.

  • Strong background in domain-driven design, data modeling, and governance frameworks.

  • Full-stack development experience with .NET, C#, and modern front-end frameworks (AngularJS or ReactJS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, containerization, and source control tools (GIT/TFS).

  • Experience with SQL, NoSQL, GraphDB, APIs, Kafka, and streaming technologies.

  • AWS Data Architecture or Cloud Architecture certifications.

  • Experience in financial services, particularly wealth management.

  • Familiarity with SAFe or other Agile methodologies.

  • Exposure to enterprise data governance and metadata management practices.

  • Knowledge of Python, Terraform scripting, Kubernetes, and automated testing frameworks.


 

Pay Range:

$155,288-$258,813/year


 

Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
