Role Summary/Purpose:

In this role, you will be the lead Portfolio Credit Manager (PCM) responsible for overall fraud management efforts for the PayPal and Venmo Credit portfolios and products, including fraud strategies at acquisition and account management transactional fraud.  Other main responsibilities include operational risk evaluation, delinquency/loss mitigation, driving profitable growth, enforcement of risk policies, and portfolio monitoring. This role acts as the key fraud PCM interface for the partner and will work directly with the client, client team leadership, and Synchrony leadership.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the COEs and client in development of acquisition and account management transactional fraud strategies to balance risk/reward tradeoff and drive profitable growth

  • Lead the development of enhanced fraud strategies using advanced analytics to manage fraud risk targeting operating plan goals

  • Actively monitor the acquisition and account management transactional fraud trends across key metrics and segments to identify and quickly respond to fraud attacks

  • Proactively identify gaps or weaknesses in fraud defenses and fortify strategies to address them

  • Serve as the liaison to the commercial team for overall Credit Management efforts supporting the Venmo portfolio at Synchrony

  • Advise and support Venmo portfolio initiatives with credit expertise, spanning new products/features, value proposition changes, and go-to-market strategy

  • Work closely with the client and the internal commercial team to deliver both Synchrony’s and the partner’s risk/reward targets, while continuing to profitably grow the portfolio

  • Work effectively cross-functionally to drive client satisfaction delivering safety and soundness in the portfolio

  • Effectively communicate project status, issues and recommendations to senior leadership team, auditors, clients, regulators, vendors and other key stakeholders

  • Prepare and deliver client facing and leadership team presentations to facilitate informed decisions

  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Fair Lending to obtain required approvals and ensure a compliant rollout of new strategies and changes to existing strategies

  • Provide loss forecasts, ensuring alignment with internal loss forecasting teams and in support of all client and internal P&L and planning processes

  • Provide analytics and input for deal and promotional pricing activities

  • Provide support and input as needed for internal and external governance reviews and exams

  • Proactively identify and recommend process controls to mitigate issues and incidents

  • Coordinate multisite/country resources to ensure delivery and accuracy of all MIS and reporting needs to meet internal and external requirements

  • Coordinate planning cycle with client teams to ensure consistency in business plans

  • Responsible for providing clear guidance to the organization on risk appetite and prudent growth

  • Maintain effective and credible challenge of critical decisions and business processes

  • Ensure portfolio deal structure and contract(s) are consistent with risk appetite

  • Guide, mentor and develop portfolio credit and other staff in technical and business matters

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years in consumer risk management, credit management or a similar role, or in lieu of a degree, 12+ years in a consumer credit management

  • 3+ years leadership experience in enterprise portfolio management oversight with strong emphasis on credit strategy, credit policy and internal/external communications

  • Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience with co-brand consumer lending and interacting with a digital only client/partner

  • Use of advanced technical & analytical competencies in driving effective strategic goals within a significant functional area

  • Familiarity with consumer and commercial lending products and practices

  • Experience operating at a strategic level as part of a senior leadership team

  • Experience with SAS or SQL or similar analytical tools

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Experience creating and leading organizational change

  • Master’s Degree or MBA with advanced analytic focus, or equivalent

Grade/Level: 14

The salary range for this position is 170,000.00 - 290,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles.  Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles.  Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.  All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
