ABOUT THE TEAM

The global People team is a collaborative team that seeks out the diverse opinions, skills and strengths of our colleagues around the world with respect and empathy when delivering work for Dow Jones and its brands. The People Business Partner (PBP) team does this by working together for the greater good, sharing our expertise, experience and ideas to support each other both within our team and when engaging our Centers of Excellence. We are client-centric, strategic partners to the business and deliver by aligning to Dow Jones’ commercial goals and driving organizational performance. Our global People team is predominantly located in New York, London, Barcelona, Hong Kong and Singapore. We’re a growing team looking to positively enhance the employee experience and support the business to achieve its objectives.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Dow Jones is looking for a VP, People Business Partner who is dynamic, business-driven and interpersonally savvy. You will have a track record of building strong relationships with C-suite leaders, understanding a global business and influencing at all levels to drive positive change throughout the organization.

Reporting to the SVP, People Business Partners you will mentor, coach and inspire a team of PBPs across geographies and timezones, breaking down silos to help them succeed. You will manage and develop your team members to live our values of Collaboration, Trust, Impact and Excellence through their work and seek to optimize ways of working to deliver a unified, people-first approach to our business clients.  

YOU WILL

  • Work on-site in our midtown Manhattan office 4 days a week.

  • Oversee Business Partnering across the company’s horizontal business areas, including our global Technology organization, ensuring partnership at all levels is delivered with a commercial mindset and a client-centric approach.

  • Create clear goals and objectives for our PBPs, helping connect us to the goals of the business and be a strategic partner to our leadership teams.

  • Serve as a partner to senior executive leaders on their strategic initiatives and identify how our collective People team functions can be leveraged to help propel the business and drive profitability. 

  • Constantly partner with our People team COE leaders to ensure the right capabilities are being brought together to build new tools, optimize the way we work and influence change across the organization.

  • Drive a high-impact, engaged culture by leading proactive workforce planning, strategically deploying talent and succession initiatives, and influencing location and compensation strategies. 

  • Advocate for new or enhanced People policies, practices and systems which help attract, retain and mobilize talent, support business priorities, and promote competitive advantage. 

  • Bring your team along, share best practices, strategize with COE partners and business leaders, and turn visions into concrete plans. 

  • Thrive in ambiguity, comfortably managing complex challenges that do not have a process or a system in place.

  • Function as a trustworthy, courageous leader who drives exceptional performance and positive change by communicating openly and honestly, delivering reliably on all commitments, and modeling a culture of trust, inclusion, accountability, and innovation.

 

YOU HAVE

  • 15+ years of progressively responsible human resources experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity

  • Willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office 4 days a week

  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, coaching, and counseling skills

  • Proficiency in using data and analytics to develop clear insights and actionable strategies

  • Experience adopting AI tools in the HR function

  • Expertise in a global HR environment, with strong knowledge of current US employment/labor laws (federal, state, local) and a working knowledge of country-specific laws outside of the US

  • Ability to position self as credible (garners respect, acts with integrity, keeps commitments); proactive (has a point of view, challenges assumptions, takes initiative); and a trusted thought partner (builds relationships, delivers results)

  • Expertise in full employee relations lifecycle, including managing sensitive issues, workplace investigations, grievances and performance management processes

  • A proven track record of building and/or expanding processes and best practices

  • Proven ability to balance strategic business partnership with thoughtful employee advocacy

  • Experience understanding and leveraging organizational dynamics to drive effective talent movement, succession, and career management across the company

  • Proven track record of commercial success and an ability to deliver on strategic business goals

  • Demonstrated ability to be a proactive team player who can operate and deliver effectively under pressure

Pay Range: $265,000 - $295,000
