The Vice President of Arch National Accounts Casualty (NAC) Umbrella/Excess is responsible for the overall technical underwriting and account management of the umbrella/excess casualty book for the group. The individual must be a highly-motivated, career-oriented and technically proficient in underwriting casualty business.  Candidate will work closely with EVP and home office team to develop and implement NAC umbrella and excess strategy.  They will also work closely with corporate underwriting and other business units that write excess within Arch.  They must be able to underwrite large, highly technical risks within a diverse set of industries in accordance with Arch Insurance business standards and sound underwriting practices. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop underwriting guidelines and business plan to provide direction on strategies and actions that can maximize product line underwriting results and competitive advantages while being mindful of the organizational goals of returning desired ROE for the unit’s underwriting results. 
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships with regions. Be a technical resource for underwriting supported umbrella and excess policies over our primary programs.
  • Have the ability to influence and be willing to work in a collaborative and team environment.
  • Occasionally meets with key brokers, agents, industry groups, and insured parties to discuss NAC’s role in the excess marketplace.

Skills/Experience:

  • At least 15 years of related underwriting experience.
  • High technical proficiency with a strong understanding of coverages, underlying policies, exposures as well as limits management.
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to understand and interpret a wide range of information sources to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Required to have demonstrated interpersonal communication and leadership skills as evidenced by experience in dealing with brokers, agents, industry groups, and insureds and collaborating internally with peers, support staff, and management.

Education:

  • College degree preferred (professional CPCU certification and/or MBA desired). 

For individuals assigned or hired to work in the location(s) indicated below, the base salary range is provided. Range is as of the time of posting. Position is incentive eligible.

$174,800 - $271,446 - NYC

  • Total individual compensation (base salary, short & long-term incentives) offered will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to geographic location, scope & responsibilities of the role, qualifications, talent availability & specialization as well as business needs. The above pay range may be modified in the future.
