Position Overview

At a pivotal moment of transformation, the Vice President of Merchandising will lead product assortment strategy, pricing, and inventory optimization to drive sales growth, margin expansion, and brand differentiation across all Fashion channels within the Kay and Peoples businesses.

Core Accountabilities

  • Define and execute a long‑term merchandising strategy aligned with brand positioning, customer insights, and evolving consumer trends.

  • Assess overall business performance and develop a comprehensive, category‑based annual roadmap to deliver strategic objectives.

  • Identify and activate new growth opportunities, including replacing underperforming businesses and driving accretive expansion.

  • Lead seasonal assortment planning to maximize performance across peak holiday and off‑season periods.

  • Establish pricing architecture and promotional strategies to achieve margin and profitability goals.

  • Partner closely with Planning to optimize inventory levels and improve turn rates.

  • Collaborate with MP\&I and Visual teams to determine optimal SKU density based on performance, store ranking, and linear space.

  • Partner with eCommerce to enhance digital assortment, presentation, and conversion performance.

  • Leverage customer insights, market data, and competitive analysis to inform product strategy and investment decisions.

  • Drive disciplined, ROI‑focused decision‑making across pricing, promotions, inventory, real estate, and capital investments.

Culture Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a high‑performing merchandising organization, fostering strong cross‑functional collaboration.

  • Assess talent and build robust succession and development plans to ensure long‑term organizational strength.

  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships, both internally and externally.

  • Champion a culture of open communication, empowerment, accountability, and ownership

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Sales growth (% vs. last year and plan)

  • Gross margin (%)

  • Inventory turn (by category)

  • Sell‑through rate on new collections (%)

  • Markdown percentage versus target thresholds

  • Assortment productivity (revenue per SKU)

  • Vendor performance (on‑time delivery, cost savings)

  • Team engagement scores

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.

  • 10+ years of progressive merchandising leadership experience, ideally within jewelry, luxury, or specialty retail.

  • Proven success developing assortment strategies that drive sales and margin growth.

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen, including pricing, margin management, and inventory optimization.

  • Experience leading seasonal planning and full product lifecycle management.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate consumer insights and trends into compelling product strategies.

  • Strong vendor negotiation and relationship‑management capabilities.

  • Effective people leader with a track record of developing and mentoring high‑performing teams.

  • Influential collaborator able to partner cross‑functionally at all levels of the organization.

  • Exceptional communication and executive‑level storytelling skills.

  • Proficiency with merchandising systems, reporting tools, and the advanced Microsoft suite.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with strong prioritization skills.
