Job Purpose:

This position is a primary actuarial advisor to senior leaders on the topics of pricing, valuation, financial projections, capital, enterprise risk management, and other actuarial work for Life, Health, and Annuities. The incumbent will provide counsel to the CFO and senior business management on appropriate courses of action, and the possible financial consequences of various actions. Evaluates reserves, estimates losses for forecasts and annual business plans, analyzes rates, sets capital allocations, and/or quantifies enterprise risk. This position will work in partnership with other leaders across the organization.

Leads a particular segment of the business. They work to administer organizational activities, analyze, review, and develop business strategies. Directors delegate tasks, and hire proficient managers. They meet financial objectives by forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Directors grow the business by strategic alignment with others in the organization and typically accomplish their objectives through managers vs. staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategic oversight of the organization’s actuarial work related to, reserving and valuation, as well as capital modelling at the product level for Life, Health, and Annuities.  Product pricing and product management are managed within the Product team.
  • Provide leadership and support to foster an environment of partnership, cross-training, teamwork, and personnel development.
  • Plays a major role in forecasting business Statutory and GAAP in-force and new business plans, profitability and sensitivities.
  • Lead the reserving function including the reserving policy and position, identifying loss trends and reporting.
  • Collaborate with product, finance, market risk and Governance, Risk & Assurance to understand the company’s financials, capital allocation methods, risk strategies and other information to interface seamlessly with Regulatory and Rating agencies.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory, legislative, industry and economic trends.
  • Serve as the Appointed Actuary and keep board of directors aware of the actuarial adequacy of our assets that support our liabilities.
  • Collaborate with Head of P&C Actuarial to ensure consistency and best practices across the actuarial functions.
  • Attract, recruit and develop top talent. Motivate the team, delegate effectively, celebrate diversity within the team, and manage performance. Bring thought leadership to the organization with respect to talent development, succession, and recruitment best practices while ensuring practical business solutions.

Job Requirements:

  • FSA or FCAS Level or equivalent
  • 15+ years of experience in actuarial setting with progressive responsibilities
  • Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, statistics, mathematics or a related field
  • Broad knowledge of insurance operations and products and emerging issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated team-building and coaching skills, proven teamwork and collaboration
  • Demonstrated high skill level of expertise in oral, written, listening, and presentation communication skills with an ability to confidently present internally and externally and influence for outcome.
  • Demonstrated high level of interactive, collaboration and other teaming skill sets to facilitate interaction between associates at all levels of the organization.
