Job Summary

The Vice President will assist in the development and market differentiation of Memorial Hermann in international markets. The Vice President will formalize an integrated approach to international patient care, global collaborations, and advisory programs across the Memorial Hermann system, creating a global network that attracts patients and partners to Houston. The incumbent will identify opportunities to expand international services by ensuring the highest quality outcomes, superior experience, and efficient care. The Vice President works collaboratively with physicians, system and regional leadership, hospital leadership teams, and staff to ensure the international strategy meets its goals and objectives. The position reports directly to the SVP and President of Academic Hospitals.

Job Description

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Bachelor’s degree required. Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Health Administration (MHA), or equivalent field is preferred.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

  • Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare strategy, business development, or international healthcare.

  • Demonstrated success launching or scaling international patient programs, partnerships, or ventures within a major healthcare system or academic medical center.

  • Strong knowledge of international referral networks, embassy/insurer contracting, global patient logistics, and cross-border healthcare operations.

  • Proven business development expertise with ability to negotiate complex agreements, develop global partnerships, and expand service line reach.

  • Expertise in compliance with international regulations, including FCPA, OFAC, data privacy, and brand governance.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate highly matrixed organizations and collaborate effectively with physicians, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Strong financial management acumen, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and P&L accountability.

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation – with confidence representing the organization domestically and internationally.

  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to analyze global healthcare trends and market research to inform decision-making.

  • Experience in establishing and managing global brand affiliations, education/consulting agreements, and international business ventures.

  • Leadership style that emphasizes integrity, personal accountability, and visibility both inside and outside the organization.

  • Multilingual ability or international cultural competence preferred.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Works closely with stakeholders to establish the vision and direction for international services, consistent with the strategic direction of Memorial Hermann, and models the system’s mission, vision, and values.

  • Prepares and implements multi-year business plans for international growth, incorporating input from physicians and system leadership to support strategic, financial, and operational targets.

  • Develops and oversees International Patient Services, ensuring seamless care coordination, concierge support, bundled pricing, and superior patient experience for international patients.

  • Establishes and manages international partnerships, affiliations, and advisory programs to extend the Memorial Hermann brand globally while safeguarding compliance and quality.

  • Develops and manages the international business budget; forecasts revenue and expenses; ensures contribution margin meets or exceeds established goals.

  • Creates dashboards and reporting to track key performance indicators, including patient volumes, market growth, quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction, providing regular updates to system leadership and the Board.

  • Ensures safe, high-quality, and culturally responsive care for international patients through collaboration with physicians, service line leaders, and quality teams.

  • Monitors international healthcare trends and proactively integrates best practices to differentiate Memorial Hermann globally.

  • Builds strong relationships with embassies, insurers, and referral networks to expand access and increase international patient volume.

  • Leads development of digital second opinion services and global telehealth access, aligning with system-wide virtual care strategy.

  • Partners with marketing and communications to develop an international brand strategy that positions Memorial Hermann competitively in global markets.

  • Ensures robust governance structures are in place for use of the Memorial Hermann name, marks, and clinical protocols in all international agreements.

  • Develops and organizational culture that embraces accountability, compassion, and excellence in the delivery of international services.

  • Recruits, develops, and retains a high-performing team to support global initiatives.

  • Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.

  • Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as a resource to less experienced staff.

  • Demonstrates commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Models Memorial Hermann’s service standards of providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and our workforce.
