The Role

The VP, Legal & General Counsel will serve as a critical leader and advisor of the Addepar leadership team.  This role will be an integral partner to enable client and product-led growth  while protecting the Company, including its clients data through the development, application and monitoring of global compliance. As Addepar evolves into an AI-native platform company, trust, security, and regulatory rigor are core to our success. 

You will oversee a global team of Associate General Counsels and lead functions spanning commercial contracts, compliance, privacy & data governance, and legal operations, while building a scalable legal operating model to support a high-growth, global organization.

Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York.

The current range for this role is $250,000 - $350,000 (base salary) + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You'll Do

Executive & Board Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CEO and COO on legal, regulatory, and risk matters
  • Support Board governance, strategic initiatives, and complex decision-making with clear, pragmatic legal guidance
  • Help leaders assess and manage risk in pursuit of aggressive growth and scale
Commercial & Revenue Enablement 
  • Support the evolution of Addepar’s global commercial contracting strategy (MSAs, DPAs, SLAs, SOWs, and partner agreements) and scale contract processes to support enterprise sales velocity without compromising risk posture
  • Partner closely with GTM, Finance, and RevOps to reduce deal friction and improve cycle times
Privacy, Data Protection & Governance
  • Lead global privacy and data governance programs aligned with Addepar’s handling of sensitive financial and personal data
  • Oversee compliance with global data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR and other regional regimes)
  • Partner with Security, IT, and Product on incident response, breach readiness, and privacy-by-design practices
AI & Product Legal Leadership
  • Provide legal guidance on AI-native product development, including data usage, model governance, and transparency; help shape responsible AI practices that align with customer trust and regulatory expectations
  • Advise Product and Engineering teams on product launches, roadmap decisions, and customer-facing disclosures
Compliance & Global Expansion
  • Build and maintain a practical, scalable compliance framework appropriate for a global fintech platform
  • Oversee employment-related legal matters, including global workforce expansion and policy frameworks
  • Support office openings and entity setup across EMEA, APAC, and other regions
Legal Operations & Team Leadership
  • Partner with the VP People, VP Finance & G&A Operations group to support the COO on the operational support of the Company, including achievement of Company-led goals/KPI’s
  • Lead and develop a high-performing legal team
  • Manage disputes, investigations, and litigation with discipline and sound judgment
  • Establish legal operating rhythms, intake prioritization, playbooks, templates, and KPIs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Senior Leadership: Significant experience as General Counsel, Deputy GC, or equivalent in a high-growth technology company
  • Commercial Expertise: Deep experience with enterprise commercial contracts and complex customer environments
  • Data & Privacy: Strong background in privacy, data protection, and regulatory risk (ideally in fintech, SaaS, or data-intensive platforms)
  • Scale: Proven ability to scale legal processes in fast-moving, global organizations
  • Management: Experience leading and developing senior legal leaders
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting AI-driven products or emerging technology platforms.
  • Global experience across EMEA and APAC markets
  • Prior exposure to regulated financial services  (banks, RIAs, institutional clients)
  • Experience with  M&A, or other strategic liquidity events.
