JOB SUMMARY

This job manages the delivery of legal services to the Organization and its majority-owned or controlled subsidiaries and affiliates. The incumbent plans and implements departmental strategic, operational and other initiatives. Manages outside legal counsel when retained to supplement internal resources or provide special expertise and provides direction to professional para-professional and other staff assigned to practice group.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Communicate effectively by displaying effective communication skills.
  • Provide legal advice to management, staff and applicable boards of directors.
  • Report to Chief Legal Officer, management and applicable boards of directors.
  • Participate in establishment and implementation of policies for department operations.
  • Direct activities of professional, para-professional and other staff.
  • Participate in development of strategies to address legal needs of the Corporation.
  • Participate in development of department plans to support the strategic plans of the Organization.
  • Manage complex legal matters.
  • Explore and effectively execute legal strategies.
  • Direct implementation of elements of department strategic and/or operational plans.
  • Manages relationships with outside counsel.
  • Retain and effectively manage outside counsel to meet the needs of the Organization on a cost-effective basis.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • 10 years of professional practice experience
  • License to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Substitutions

  • None

Preferred

  • Licensed to practice law in West Virginia
  • Ten years experience within the Corporation or elsewhere in a relevant legal discipline or disciplines

Skills

  • Possess considerable experience, maturity, sound judgment, the ability to reason independently and to think critically and creatively
