Summary:
The Volunteer Services Specialist serves as the facility-level owner of the volunteer services program and is responsible for developing and executing volunteer workforce strategy for the assigned facility. This role exercises independent judgment to align volunteer services with facility operations, patient experience priorities, and safety standards, while partnering closely with hospital leadership, clinical departments, Human Resources, and community organizations.Responsibilities:
Conducts ongoing rounding and formal assessments with volunteers and departmental leaders to evaluate effectiveness of placements, make real-time placement and role adjustments, and ensure continued alignment with facility operational needs and volunteer capabilities.Holds accountability for volunteer performance management, engagement, and issue resolution, exercising discretion to address concerns, implement corrective actions, and escalate risks that may impact operations, patient experience, or compliance.Represents Volunteer Services in facility and departmental forums to provide program updates, communicate enhancements, and ensure alignment with operational priorities.Designs and leads the facility volunteer recognition and retention strategy, including major annual appreciation events and ongoing engagement initiatives, to sustain volunteer satisfaction, retention, and program continuity.Responsible for facility-level volunteer program analytics and data integrity, leveraging Press Ganey survey data, Workday, and TASS to monitor performance, identify trends, and develop regular KPI reports (including onboarding volume, volunteer terminations, service-hour trends, and exit survey insights). Translates insights into actionable recommendations that address program gaps and strengthen volunteer engagement, retention, operational efficiency, and overall service quality.Owns the end-to-end volunteer lifecycle strategy for the assigned facility, including recruitment planning, selection, onboarding, and placement optimization, ensuring consistent coverage, quality, and alignment with departmental and patient-facing needs.Serves as the primary facility-level consultant to department leaders on volunteer role design, assessing operational needs, risk considerations, and patient experience goals to develop appropriately scoped, safe, and compliant volunteer assignments.Competencies:

Complexity of Work: Requires excellent communication, critical thinking, and presentation skills to influence diverse stakeholders, including clinical leaders, operational teams, volunteers, and community partners. The role regularly exercises independent judgment to balance competing priorities, assess risk, interpret data, and make decisions that impact facility operations, volunteer safety, and patient experience. Work involves navigating ambiguity, managing sensitive issues, and applying sound judgment within established enterprise frameworks and policies Required Work Experience: Two (2) years of related experience.
