Volunteer Coordinator - Part time 0.6 FTE (3 days per week) - Extendicare Eaux Claires

Candidates are invited to apply for the above position to work at Extendicare      Eaux Claires Long Term Care Home, a 204-bed long-term care facility, located in Edmonton, Alberta. The successful applicant will report to the Rehab Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for managing all administrative and resource aspects of the Volunteer program within Extendicare Eaux Claires.

Key Responsibilities:

• To recruit, orient, develop, coach and performance manage Volunteers

• To maintain records pertaining to Volunteers

• To maintain Volunteer association financial records

• To maintain knowledge base

• To assist other departments as necessary

• To prepare and file reports as required

• To develop departmental policies and procedures

• To ensure quality assurance program is maintained

• To promote and maintain harmonious, effective relationships between Volunteers and staff

• To ensure resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted

• To be knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles and endeavors to promote it

• To work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults (residents)

• To uphold and promote the organization's values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in Extendicare's Code of Conduct

• To complete all other tasks as assigned including meal assistance and resident safety checks

QUALIFICATIONS

• Degree or diploma in a related field

• Minimum of one (1) year experience with seniors in an organized program or with persons in a health care setting

• Demonstrated experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers

•  Must have strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to organize and manage time and workload
  • Computer proficiency with Windows / Microsoft office applications
  • Experience and/or education in recreation therapy, leisure studies or other related field preferred
  • Knowledge and recent experience required in one to one and group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both cognitively and physically impaired individuals
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability to plan, implement, evaluate new ideas and resident programs
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairments.
