Reporting to a Professor in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science Weed Science Laboratory, the Visiting Scholar assists with research activities related to weed management in specialty crops, using both conventional and organic production systems. This position supports research conducted in field, greenhouse, and laboratory settings and involves close collaboration with students, research staff, and technicians.

The role is based on the Wooster Campus and provides hands‑on experience in applied weed science research.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with plant propagation, data collection, and research procedures in field, greenhouse, and laboratory environments related to weed management in specialty crops
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory and field notebooks, record experimental results, and enter data into electronic systems
  • Assist with data analysis and preparation of materials for interpretation of experimental results
  • Interact and collaborate with undergraduate and graduate students, technicians, and hourly employees involved in the research projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of research objectives

Responsibilities Breakdown

  • 60% – Assist with plant propagation, data collection, and research procedures in field, greenhouse, and laboratory
  • 20% – Maintain laboratory notebook; record results and enter data
  • 20% – Assist with analysis and interpretation of data

Required Qualifications

  • One year of education, research, or professional experience in plant protection, integrated pest management, weed science, or a closely related field
  • Ability to follow research protocols and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse research teams in an academic setting
