Job Summary:
The Art, Theatre and Dance (ATD) Department requests a Visiting Professor of Art with an emphasis in Painting and Drawing. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in teaching at the university level as well as established creative practice and exhibition record. The course load will be a 4/4 and includes undergraduate studio courses and graduate seminars. The bulk of the load will be painting and drawing courses, but the ideal candidate will be a generalist with some experience in art education, design, printmaking and/or photography. The position is a one-year appointment with reduced service requirements and the option for an exhibition on campus at the end of the year in the Dord Fitz Gallery. Recent MFA graduates wishing to gain more teaching experience or professional artists interested in temporarily returning to teaching are encouraged to apply.
Work Performed:
-teach the assigned course load, which may include:
-Painting 1-3
-Drawing courses (Intro, Observational, and Life)
-Graduate Seminar in Painting or Drawing
-Design 1
-Printmaking (relief and/or screen)
-Photography 1 (digital only)
-participate in all program assessment including student evaluation, jurying of student exhibitions, and graduate critiques
-attend all faculty and department meetings and program art exhibitions
-work with art program coordinator to acquire course materials and maintain studio spaces
Necessary Qualifications:
-MFA in Studio Art, Painting, Drawing or related field
-1 year of undergraduate teaching experience
-Active creative practice demonstrated by exhibitions, presentations, and/or publications
Preferred Qualifications:
-Painting and Drawing Focus
-Experience with Art Education at the secondary and/or primary levels
-Experience with other 2D media, like design, printmaking and/or photography
-Experience with curriculum development and other academic innovation
