About the role:
A vacancy exists in the Plastic Surgery team for a highly motivated visiting medical officer with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high-quality patient centred care.
Duties include:
Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care, to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in plastic surgery;
Performing microsurgery , maxillofacial surgery and a particular interest in head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction as well as general plastic and reconstructive surgery;
Provision of up to three half day elective operating sessions per month primarily to public patients noting that the number of allocated sessions available may vary over time depending upon resources available, strategic priorities and clinical demand;
Management of elective waiting lists to ensure the numbers of elective waiting list patients do not exceed the National and State waiting time benchmarks or exceed the capacity of the contractually agreed theatre time availability to undertake the wait list cases, in accordance with NSW Health Policy
Participate in teaching and research duties;
Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;
Participate in the Plastic Surgery on-call roster.

Selection Criteria:
Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia;
Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Plastic Surgeons (FRACS) as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997;
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Plastic Surgery commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position, including experience and expertise in reconstructive microsurgery (including free flaps), particularly head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery and general plastic and reconstructive surgery in a teaching hospital environment;
Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels;
Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes;
Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience;
Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment;
Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
