The Department of Animal Sciences is seeking a highly motivated visiting fellow to support research activities in the Animal Functional Genomics Laboratory. This position will contribute to basic and applied research in muscle and adipose biology, with an emphasis on generating knock‑out avian species using the CRISPR/Cas9 genome‑editing system. The role involves planning and performing experiments, analyzing data, assisting with animal management, and preparing research results for publication.

This is a hands‑on laboratory and animal‑based research role requiring attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities

70% — Research Support & Experimental Work

  • Assist in conducting research experiments related to muscle biology, adipose biology, and functional genomics.
  • Support production of knock‑out avian models using CRISPR/Cas9 and related molecular techniques.
  • Plan, execute, and document experimental procedures while maintaining accurate, timely lab records.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze data; generate figures, reports, and presentations.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; perform molecular, cellular, and biochemical assays as needed.
  • Assist in preparing research results for publications, conference presentations, and internal reports.

30% — Animal Management & Sample Organization

  • Assist with routine animal husbandry and care in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Coordinate animal sampling, sample labeling, handling, and storage.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of samples, reagents, and supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Animal Sciences, Biological Sciences, Genetics, or a closely related field.
  • Basic understanding of molecular biology concepts and laboratory practices.
  • Ability to follow established protocols and maintain clear, detailed documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to work with avian species and handle animal‑related duties.
