The Opportunity:
As a Virtual Reference Librarian, you will provide systems administration for the
library virtual automated and digital systems by providing dynamic access to the library's collections and digital assets including Integrated Library System (ILS), Discovery Service layer, Digital Databases, web-based subscription databases, sound files and all assets owned or licensed by the library system. Provide comprehensive information services, including reference, research, reader advisory, and instruction. Conduct resident reference searches and research utilizing digital sites and subscription database software to include all subject areas from general, scientific, and technical information.
Responsibilities:
- Provide systems administration for the library virtual automated and digital systems.
- Providing dynamic access to the library's collections and digital assets including Integrated Library System (ILS), Discovery Service layer, Digital Databases, web-based subscription databases, sound files and all assets owned or licensed by the library system.
- Provide comprehensive information services, including reference, research, reader advisory, and instruction.
- Conducts resident reference searches and research utilizing digital sites and subscription database software to include all subject areas from general, scientific, and technical information.
- Supports the management of digital library systems for the Army Special Operations Forces Center of Excellence Marquat Memorial Library Resource Center (MMLRC) and Joint Special Operations Medical Library Training Center Library (JSOMTC).
- Serve as a team member supporting the SWCS/SOCoE Education.
- Guide users in finding and using library resources, databases, and digital collections.
- Conduct virtual tours, tutorials, and workshops to help users navigate the library’s digital offerings.
- Ensure that electronic resources are up-to-date and accessible.
- Create and manage metadata for digital collections to enhance searchability.
- Address technical issues related to digital resources and work with IT staff toresolve them.
- Work with other library staff and departments to develop and implement outreach strategies.
- Stay updated with trends in library science and technology to enhance service delivery.
- Engage in ongoing education to stay current with developments in virtual reference services and technology.
- Develop and update policies and procedures for virtual reference services.
- Ensure that virtual services comply with library policies, copyright laws, and data privacy regulations.
- Proficient in using various virtual reference platforms.
- Collaborate with other library departments to ensure cohesive service delivery.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Secret Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in library science or a related field.
- Experience working in a library setting, particularly in reference services.
- Experience providing services through digital platforms, such as chat, email, or video conferencing.
Desired:
- Master’s degree of Library Science or Library and Information Science.
- Certification from professional library associations.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
$70,100 - $147,400
