Video Intern, Quanta Magazine

Quanta Magazine is looking for a motivated video intern for the summer of 2026 to help create videos for the website and Quanta’s YouTube channel with more than 1M subscribers. This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career video producer to learn about the production of animated explainers, series and short documentaries about biology, physics, computer science and mathematics. The intern will receive training and mentoring from the video team and the magazine editors and will potentially leave with some nice portfolio pieces.
 

This paid internship is full time at 40 hours per week. It will take place on-site at the Simons Foundation offices in New York City between June 1st to August 14th, 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the video team with research for video explainers, series and documentaries. 

  • Contact scientists and press officers to arrange interviews for videos.

  • Assist the video team with producing shoots; for example, researching and writing interview questions and collaborating with crew and remote subjects.

  • Assist the video team with edits, including working with archival material, selecting music tracks, and completing color and sound passes. 

  • Track and report on the latest trends on other science YouTube channels.

  • Assist the video team with creation and strategy of vertical shorts.

  • Perform other duties or tasks as assigned or required.
     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates should be working toward a career in video, film, media or journalism.

  • Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere and Adobe Photoshop is essential, and familiarity with Adobe After Effects is desirable.

  • An enthusiastic interest in science and science communication.

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Good judgement of video quality with an understanding of animation, cinematography, editing, production and post-production processes that contribute to success.

COMPENSATION

  • This internship pays $20 to $25 per hour, depending on degree level
