Vice President, Technology National Center for Clinical Trials is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive technology strategy for clinical trial and RWD&E offerings. This role is pivotal in integrating various clinical systems (e.g., EHR, CTMS, EDC, ePRO, eReg systems) to enhance operational efficiency and innovation. Responsible for ensuring the NCCT's technology infrastructure supports the organization's mission and strategic goals, leveraging technology to improve clinical trial and RWD&E service delivery and outcomes. This leader will represent the NCCT at a level comparable to a health system IT leader, focusing on seamless data flow, functionality updates, and investment decisions.

Major Responsibilities  

  • Develop and implement a multi-year technology roadmap for both strategic and operational technologies, partnering with the NCCT’s Senior Leadership Team to position technology as a competitive advantage 
  • Oversee the management and optimization of critical technology systems, such as Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS), electronic data capture (EDC) systems, databases, and electronic regulatory (eReg) systems 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize data entry, integration, and interoperability between clinical systems, research databases and repositories 
  • Maintain compliance with data privacy, protection and security requirements, ensuring all IT systems and protocols adhere to industry standards & regulations 
  • Co-lead harmonization efforts across Operations and Technology departments to ensure cohesive integration of processes and systems / tech solutions 
  • Monitor the performance of IT systems and manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers, using data-driven insights to guide improvements and strategic planning 
  • Assess the costs, value and risks of information technology to advise management on actions and investments in technologies 

Minimum Job Requirements 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.   

Certification / Registration / License

Experience

  • Typically requires 10 years in IT leadership roles within healthcare or clinical research with progressive leadership experience.      

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • ​​In-depth knowledge of clinical systems (e.g., EHR, CTMS, EDC, ePRO, eReg) and infrastructure, including cloud-based applications and storage 
  • Expertise in strategic planning, tech roadmap development, and implementation 
  • Previous working experience navigating within large, matrixed organizations as well as early stage or startup environments a plus 
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., data privacy, security) 
  • Proficient in data acquisition, verification, integration, and cybersecurity 
  • Excellent communication, team management, and interpersonal skills, capable of motivating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and external partners 
  • Strong strategic and business mindset, able to explain complex technological concepts to non-technical audiences
