PAY RANGE

The Target Pay Range for this position is $230,000-$310,000 annually. At BECU, compensation decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, and education or training. Should an offer for employment be made, we will consider individual qualifications. In addition to your salary, compensation incentives are available for the hired applicant. Incentives are performance based and targets vary by role.

VP, STRATEGIC SUPPORT, CONSUMER AND BUSINESS SOLUTIONS

IMPACT YOU’LL MAKE

As the Vice President, Strategic Support reporting to the EVP, Consumer & Business Solutions, this position leads and influences key management processes and change initiatives, facilitating positing change across the core member-facing functions and business of the organization. By working closely with business leaders and key partners, this role ensures the alignment, coordination and integration of each line of business strategies, priorities, and resources within the division.  

The position is responsible for supporting key activities including driving change management, developing strategies to improve revenue and member growth, developing business cases to support strategies, driving clear and concise division communications, operational risk management, and strategic and annual planning.

This role is accountable not only for coordinating strategy, but for creating it – taking the pen, shaping the narrative, and driving the strategic agenda forward.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Divisional Strategic Planning:
    • Lead and shape the division‑wide strategic planning and budgeting processes, taking ownership of synthesizing inputs into cohesive strategies, framing tradeoffs, and articulating clear strategic priorities and choices.
    • Provide thought leadership and internal consulting for cross-functional credit union and/or division business development initiatives, including organic, partnerships, alliances and M&A growth strategies.
  • Strategic Roadmap Execution:
    • Work across the credit union to define, shape, and drive execution of the strategic roadmap, ensuring initiatives are grounded in a clear strategic thesis, explicitly linked to division and enterprise objectives, and collectively tell a coherent strategic story.
  • Strategic Roadmap Execution:
    • Identify, develop, and drive new cross‑product and cross‑channel strategic initiatives, including growth opportunities, simplification efforts, multi‑product constructs, and potential partnerships.
    • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the EVP and senior leadership, proactively surfacing opportunities, risks, and strategic options.
    • Lead the development of new strategic concepts, business models, and operating constructs, from initial hypothesis through business case and execution alignment.
  • Divisional Leadership Alignment and Risk Management:
    • Facilitate ongoing leadership meetings to ensure integration and alignment of business growth initiatives/opportunities, performance trends, best practices, and other issues affecting the business. 
    • Develop division-wide operational risk management framework and coordinate/oversee division-wide operational risk management activities.
  • Divisional Communication, Workspace and Planning:
    • Develop board‑ and senior executive‑level strategic narratives, materials, and recommendations—synthesizing complex information into clear stories that frame decisions, highlight implications, and show how initiatives connect into a unified strategy.
    • Lead the development of a division wide communication approach to ensure clarity of goals, strategic initiatives and programs.
    • Partner with Facilities and senior leaders on workspace planning and master-use planning.
  • Divisional Management Practices & Governance Routines:
    • Develop, plan and coordinate key divisional management processes, including business reviews, senior leader meetings, and employee recognition. Develop a division-wide communication process and unified culture to ensure employees understand the division’s goals, strategic objectives, initiatives, projects and programs.
    • Lead division-wide project and initiative planning process, while working with key partners and senior leaders, and representing the COO and division on committees as necessary.
  • Operational Improvement and Optimization:  
    • Consult with executives, directors, and managers to identify operational improvement.
    • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of processes, workflows, and technology/systems improvement. 
  • Governance and Compliance:  
    • Serve on key BECU governance committees, representing the Consumer & Business Solutions team.
    • Ensure compliance with all credit union policies and regulatory requirements, maintaining effective compliance programs.
    • Lead the creation/maintenance of the business unit’s process workflows and procedure documentation.
    • Partner with ERM and Audit to coordinate annual audit, exam and credit review processes, and support the team on issue tracking and resolution.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum ten years of leadership experience in fast-paced, highly collaborative work environments required.
  • Five to seven years of experience developing, authoring, and driving business strategy, including ownership of strategic synthesis, recommendation development, and executive‑level storytelling
  • This job is remote or hybrid but requires you to reside in one of the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, California, North Carolina or Virginia.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% - 20%.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive cross-functional leadership with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build consensus across complex organizations.
  • Senior-level strategy & planning experience in large-scale financial services or consulting, owning strategic synthesis, prioritization, and trade-off framing.
  • Executive-caliber storytelling: authors clear strategy narratives and board-ready recommendations grounded in rigorous analysis.
  • Operates effectively in ambiguity—creating structure from incomplete information and designing solutions where none exist.
  • Data-driven problem solver who defines meaningful metrics to drive and demonstrate continuous improvement.
  • Plans and delivers across horizons, from strategic roadmaps to tactical execution, leading simultaneous cross-divisional initiatives and programs.
  • Exercises sound judgment and discretion; effective independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Experience in Financial Services.
