About the role

We are seeking a Vice President, Specialty Lines to join our Specialty Solutions group in Toronto. 
 

Under your leadership and strong experience in the speciality lines business, you will oversee a management team that leads the underwriting and profitable growth of large complex accounts in our National Risk Management verticals including Specialty Property, Liability, Equipment Breakdown, Energy and Construction.
 

This strategic leadership role will be responsible for driving underwriting excellence, shaping and executing a portfolio strategy, and leading a high-performing team within Specialty Solutions.

This role demands a strategic visionary who can lead a high-performing team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in speciality lines, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to foster strong broker partnerships.  
 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drive Specialty Solutions profitability and growth and contribute to the strategic plan

  • Maintain external market presence managing key broker relationships Nationally, being an ambassador to the Specialty Solutions business with external stakeholders.

  • Lead a team of Directors responsible for various lines of business, ensuring profitable growth, risk selection rigor, and alignment with the company’s broader strategic objectives.

  • Enhance underwriting excellence through advanced analytics, data-driven decision-making, and technical expertise development.

  • A key member of the Specialty Solutions Senior Leadership Team requires  collaboration  with other functional leaders to ensure alignment key business priorities.

  • Lead talent development of Specialty underwriters, ensuring strong technical depth and a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and learning.

  • Drive continuous operational and performance improvements.

  • Champion modernization efforts, underwriting systems enhancements, and digital enablement.

  • Be an Ambassador for the Intact Specialty Business attending Industry events and network with external stakeholders.

 What you bring to the table: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and strong experience in Specialty Solutions lines, particularly in Specialty Property, Equipment Breakdown, Energy and Construction.

  • Positive market reputation with National Brokers and insights into Risk Managed Lines and large complex insurance placements

  • Effective communication skills to develop and foster business relationships, both internally and externally.

  • Strategic thinking and strong business acumen with the ability to focus on both big picture and detail.

  • Leadership ability to influence and motivate people and drive change.

  • Can monitor competitive practices, regulatory, emerging trends, and other developments impacting business results and recommend changes in regional/national practices

  • Demonstrated ability to attract, lead, recruit, engage and develop teams.  

  • High degree of emotional intelligence & self-awareness – proven ability to lead through change, collaborating and building shared accountability and trust among large, cross functional  and diverse teams.  

  • Be an excellent negotiator in moderate to complex situations. 

  • Demonstrate a high degree of autonomy, organization and proactivity. 

  • Very good management of business under pressure. 

  • Strive for excellence and be inspired by the client. 

  • Have a good knowledge of the Microsoft Suite and Office 365.  

  • Have a valid driver's licence with good driving record. 

  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
