Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Legal for Markets, APAC, you will work as part of a collaborative regional and international legal team, with regular exposure to senior business and legal stakeholders across the region and globally. Responsibilities include:
• Advising the Markets business across Asia Pacific on applicable financial and banking regulations and related regulatory developments
• Taking a lead role on transactions and initiatives within the Markets business, with appropriate supervision and escalation as required
• Drafting and negotiating a wide range of Markets documentation, including FX and derivatives, securities lending and cleared and uncleared repo agreements, brokerage and trading platform agreements and other relevant transactional agreements
• Supporting cross‑border transactions and regulatory‑driven initiatives involving multiple APAC jurisdictions, balancing legal risk with business objectives
• Advising on product development and jurisdictional expansion initiatives
• Collaborating closely with Markets Legal colleagues across APAC, the US and EMEA, as well as internal partners such as Risk, Compliance and Tax
• Developing and maintaining legal templates and internal guidelines to support efficient and consistent outcomes
The work spans vanilla and structured transactions, securities financing, platform arrangements and evolving regulatory initiatives across APAC.
Development and Career Path
This role offers a steep but supported learning curve across Markets products and APAC regulatory regimes. You will gain broad exposure to the regional Markets platform, work closely with senior legal leaders and global Markets Legal teams, and build a strong foundation for continued growth as a senior in‑house Markets lawyer.
Experience and Qualifications
• Qualified lawyer admitted in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Hong Kong, UK, US or equivalent)
• Typically 5+ years of relevant legal experience gained in a leading law firm and/or in‑house legal team within financial services. Prior in-house experience is advantageous.
• Strong drafting and negotiation experience with financial markets documentation
• Solid understanding of financial and bank regulatory frameworks
• Exposure to multiple APAC jurisdictions and key regional regulatory considerations
• Fluency in a second language helpful but not required for the role
• Commercial, solutions‑oriented mindset with strong stakeholder management skills
• Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills, adaptive mindset and sensitivity to a diverse, cross‑cultural environment
