Responsibilities:

  • Develop and/or enhance new and existing Islamic finance products.  Main focus is on Treasury / Global Markets products for local and global clients booked in the Bank or within Global Corporate’s portfolios.  Other Islamic finance products or Islamic finance special projects shall be assigned, that may include developing or enhancing Shariah mechanism for capital/liquidity management to ensure product and process observe Bank’s prudential, regulatory and Shariah requirements. 
  • In relation to product development and enhancement, to prepare, present and lead the product process through collaboration with the treasury and global markets teams, Shariah Unit and other relevant departments involved in the product cycle.  The tasks would include developing policies and procedures (P&P), through incorporation of relevant treasury practices, Bank’s P&P, regulatory and Shariah requirements prior to submissions to relevant internal and regulatory prior to launching.
  • Supporting the deal execution undertaken by the Relationship Managers/Global Relationship Managers and Global Markets team.  This involves reviewing legal documents and relevant term sheet to support execution process as an Islamic product office team.  The review primarily on the ISDA/IIFM Tahawwut Master Agreement (TMA), its Schedule, and related Confirmations for specific transactions (e.g., Islamic Profit Rate Swaps, Cross Currency Swaps, Foreign Exchange transactions).
  • Prepare, review and manage materials to support frontliners/other product offices/affiliates in structuring and packaging Islamic finance solutions with focus on treasury / global markets products to suit with the customer funding requirements and in line with the Bank’s shariah requirements and Islamic related P&Ps.  The above functions would include attending meeting negotiations with the frontliners as the product office to ensure commercial terms align with Shariah and Islamic product requirements.
  • Prepare product proposals and any other marketing materials required to market products and Shariah Advisory services to potential/ existing customer. This would include preparation of reports and proposal for endorsement/approvals of relevant approving authorities.  Presentation of proposals to the relevant internal approving authorities/committees including implementing the approved decisions.    
  • Prepare materials to support frontliners/other product offices/affiliates in structuring and packaging Islamic finance products to suit with the customer funding requirements and in line with the Bank’s policies and procedures.  This would include reviewing legal documentations and other relevant term sheet in relation to the deals, attending meeting negotiations with the frontliners as the product office to ensure commercial terms align with Shariah and Islamic product requirements..
  • Develop and/or enhance new and existing IBW / ICBU products to suit market needs.  Prepare, present and incorporate Shariah requirements in relation to product development in collaboration with Shariah Unit for onward’s confirmation by the Bank’s Shariah Committee prior to launching. 
  • Act as liaison for the Bank and the Department in assigned tasks involving internal parties (audit and Shariah review), external firms and in industry association meetings.  Ability to independently analyse and provide relevant and appropriate feedback in the meetings align with the Bank’s strategies and action plans. 
  • Develop and/or enhance the operational procedures and controls of IBW / ICBU product manuals and guidelines to ensure compliance with Shariah, regulatory, Shariah and internal policies’ requirements.
  • Undertaking tasks assigned by Head of Department covering Islamic finance tasks assigned including, but not limited to, executing and coordinating action plans through development of presentation materials, preparing communication plans, coordinating working group discussions, taking minutes and monitoring timeline for designated initiatives, preparation of department's budget and expesensexpenses, costs allocation as and when required.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must have a recognized Degree in Economics, Finance/Accountancy/Banking/Islamic Banking or its equivalent from a recognized university/higher learning institution.
  • Preferably minimum 10 years’ experience holding similar responsibilities within Islamic corporate and/or commercial banking.  Preferred experience in product development and/or reviewing Islamic treasury products documentation, particularly ISDA, ISDA-TMA documentation.
  • Familiarity with treasury management system or framework and general accounting/record keeping of such process.
  • Holding certification in relation to Islamic banking/finance and treasury/global market practices, finance or post graduate degree in Islamic finance/banking or members of relevant professional standard setting bodies, is highly preferred.
  • Possess good knowledge and experience in handling related Islamic financial transactions from product development and deal execution.  Have strong understanding of specific Shariah process required for operationalisation with experience in delivering implementable solutions to manage related Islamic finance risks management framework.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence others and build good rapport with internal and external stakeholders as well as local and regulatory bodies, where required.
  • Meticulous, detail oriented with critical thinking and excellent written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
