Role Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated individual to lead our biomarker efforts in the field of inflammatory and immune diseases, with a focus on atopic dermatitis, asthma, COPD and EOE. Reporting to the Senior Vice President – Research and Translational Medicine, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the strategy and implementation of all our translational clinical and preclinical biomarker programs from early but particularly late-stage development including Phase 3 trials and BLA-readiness for all our assets. As Vice President – Inflammatory and Immune Disease Biomarker Development you will be leading and growing our internal team as well as our network of external vendors and collaborators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of biomarker discovery and development programs for inflammatory and immunology diseases, focusing on atopic dermatitis, asthma, COPD and EOE and particularly late-stage clinical development
  • Develop and articulate the late-stage clinical and post-launch strategic vision for the biomarker programs to internal and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to integrate our biomarker discovery and development efforts into our development programs, including clinical trials and BLAs
  • Oversee the Biomarker Discovery and Development team to drive efforts through a combination of in vitro/in vivo and in silico data analyses, in house and in collaboration with external partners
  • Together with the Senior Director-Biomarker Discovery and Development develop and implement biomarker strategies to demonstrate the clinical utility of novel biomarkers and the distinction of patient populations and responders as well as additional indications
  • Stay current on emerging trends and technologies in biomarker discovery and development, and implement best practices to ensure the success of our programs
  • Provide strategic input and leadership to cross-functional program and functional teams to drive the development of novel, innovative therapies for inflammatory and immunology diseases

Ideal Candidate

  • PhD or MD in a relevant scientific discipline with at least 15 years of track-record in senior leadership roles in biomarker discovery and development, preferably in the field of inflammatory and immunology diseases
  • Proven success in leading biomarker discovery programs from ideation to clinical validation and a focused understanding on late-stage clinical development including Phase 3 trials with biologics and BLAs is required. Experience in I&I, atopic dermatitis, asthma, COPD and/or EOE a plus
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate and communicate complex strategic vision with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Deep hands-on knowledge of the antibody development process and regulatory requirements for biomarkers in clinical trials and for BLA-submissions. Strong preference for candidates with late stage clinical and post launch experience
  • Expertise in collaborating with external partners and key opinion leaders in the field of inflammatory and immunology diseases
  • Strong leadership and communication skills fully aligned with our C.O.R.E. values, with the ability to effectively lead your internal team and fully integrate this team from early- to late-stage clinical development efforts
  • Position requires up to 30% travel including mandatory in-person attendance at All Hands meetings typically held twice per year as well as travel to Apogee offices in Boston and San Francisco.

The anticipated salary range for candidates for this role will be $320,000-$355,000 per year. The final salary offered will depend on several factors, which may include, but is not limited to relevant years of experience, educational background, and geography.
