Position Summary:
The Vice President, Finance – Commercial serves as a key member of the global Finance leadership team, responsible for providing strategic and operational financial leadership to Illumina’s global Commercial and Marketing organizations. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Commercial Officer to drive financial planning, forecasting, and analysis that enable data-driven decision-making and ensure optimal business performance across global regions.
Operating in a highly matrixed environment, the incumbent leads a geographically dispersed team that supports revenue management, commercial strategy, commercial pricing, and sales operations finance. This role plays a critical operations and advisory role in the development and execution of multi-year commercial strategies and growth plans, ensuring financial alignment with Illumina’s long-term objectives.
The VP provides financial leadership for a multibillion-dollar global commercial business, guiding investment prioritization, pricing strategy and governance, and commercial performance optimization. The position is accountable for ensuring financial integrity, timeliness, and accuracy in reporting and planning processes, while fostering a high-performance culture anchored in collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the principal finance business partner to the global Commercial and Marketing organizations, providing strategic and analytical insights to drive growth, profitability, and resource allocation decisions.
Lead the consolidation and forecasting of enterprise revenue, ensuring alignment, transparency, and accuracy across all commercial regions and businesses.
Lead the development, consolidation, and analysis of global commercial forecasts, budgets, long-range plans, and performance metrics; ensure accuracy, transparency, and alignment with corporate goals.
Oversee the Finance Planning and Systems function responsible for financial dashboards, metrics, and reporting tools that support timely, data-driven decisions.
Drive the development of financial models, ROI analyses, and scenario planning that enable forward-looking insights, proactive risk management, and high-impact business decisions.
• Own global commercial pricing strategy, governance, and execution in partnership with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Commercial Operations.
• Lead development of pricing frameworks, discounting guardrails, complex deal negotiation frameworks and deal governance to drive profitable growth and pricing discipline.
Provide financial leadership in support of new product launches, business cases, and strategic initiatives across regions and channels.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies in all commercial finance activities.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO and ELT, contributing to enterprise strategy, investment prioritization, and organizational planning.
Drive financial acumen and business insight across the broader Commercial and Marketing organizations through education, tools, and partnership.
Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Accounting, Operations, and Corporate Development to ensure alignment and consistency in reporting and strategic priorities.
Champion process simplification, automation, and standardization to improve efficiency and data quality in planning and reporting processes.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This role includes direct supervision of a global team of senior finance leaders and analysts (anticipated team size of over 50), with responsibility for performance management, coaching and development, workload prioritization, and day-to-day operational oversight. The position is also responsible for hiring, onboarding, and navigating people-related matters in alignment with company policies, values, and evolving workplace expectations. Additionally, the leader fosters a culture of learning, continuous improvement, and professional development, ensuring the team is positioned for growth and sustained success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Analytics, or Accounting or a related field.
Minimum of 20 years of related experience, with approximately 15+ years in an executive leadership role or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated experience leading a global commercial finance or business partner functions supporting Sales, Marketing, or regional business units in a multi-billion dollar high-growth business
• Demonstrated experience owning or leading global or regional commercial pricing strategy, including list price architecture, discount governance, and deal approval frameworks.
Proven success influencing executive decision-making and driving business outcomes through financial insight and partnership.
Strong executive acumen and leadership, with the ability to engage effectively with the CFO, Executive Leadership Team.
Strong command of financial modeling, P&L management, and strategic planning in multinational environments.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to synthesize and convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Preferred Credentials:
MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience in life sciences, medical technology, or high-growth innovation sectors desirable.
Prior experience in publicly traded or global matrix organizations with significant regional complexity.
Familiarity with utilizing current ERP, EPM, and BI systems to drive analytics, efficiency and performance (e.g., SAP, Hyperion, Power BI, Anaplan) preferred.
Other Requirements
Flexible to work across multiple time zones and collaborate with international colleagues as business demands.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required; anticipated travel up to 25% of the time.
