About The Team

Murdoch University is home to the only Veterinary School in Western Australia, and its prestigious teaching hospital provides the clinical facility that enables students to have the clinical ‘hands-on’ opportunity. It also provides a service to community through its team of top specialists who oversee the care and treatment of all animals referred to the Hospital.

The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University (TAHMU) aims to provide an environment where high professional and clinical standards, based on available scientific evidence, are tempered with genuine care and compassion.

Your New Role!  

We are seeking an organised, proactive team member who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and can contribute positively to our fast-paced environment.

Your key responsibilities will include –

  • Clinical Assistance: Help with the care and handling of large animal patients, prepare animals and equipment for procedures, and provide support during surgeries and treatments.
  • Operational Support: Assist with infection control processes, help manage equipment and stock, maintain cleanliness in clinical areas, and accurately complete required records.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Work collaboratively with veterinarians, nurses, students, and hospital staff; communicate clearly and professionally; and be willing to take on a variety of hands-on tasks as needed.

This Fixed Term (12 Months) | Full Time (37.5 hours per week) attracts a remuneration of $64,600-$71,942 including employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Certificate IV or Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (registrable in WA)
  • Confident in handling and restraining large animals, including but not limited to racehorses, performance horses, foals, farm animals and those cheeky little ponies!
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and surgical equipment, sterilisation, and aseptic techniques
  • Proven ability to work independently and in teams, take initiative, and adapt to rotating shifts
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to clients and colleagues, and the ability to manage all aspects of the Large Animal reception.
