Veneer Strategy & Procurement Specialist
General Purpose
- Lead veneer strategy, procurement, application, and usage to support business objectives. Responsible for quality standards, cost, reliability, and continuous improvement. Utilize strategic sourcing, cost targeting, supplier development, and value engineering to drive results through effective planning, communication, and coaching.
Essential Functions
- Develop and deliver training to internal associates on veneer standards, wood characteristics, and application methods to build subject matter expertise and ensure consistency in quality and execution.
- Lead and manage veneer procurement strategies to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply.
- Develop and implement veneer sourcing strategies that align with company quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, design, and supply chain) to ensure veneer specifications, standards, and usage are optimized.
- Establish and maintain veneer quality standards and work closely with suppliers to ensure compliance.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities using lean manufacturing principles and MKPS (MillerKnoll Performance System) tools.
- Conduct cost analysis and value engineering to achieve annual cost savings and efficiency targets.
- Negotiate supplier agreements and maintain strong, strategic supplier relationships.
- Monitor veneer inventory levels and manage reserve records to support production demand.
- Support training, development, and coaching of internal teams and veneer buyers on strategy, process, and best practices.
- Leverage market analysis to understand global veneer trends, cost drivers, and risks, and apply these insights to procurement decisions.
- Travel up to 40%, including international travel.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

- Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 10 years of professional procurement or sourcing experience, preferably in veneer or wood materials.
- Proven experience in strategic sourcing, cost analysis, and supplier negotiations.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials flow, and quality systems.
- Demonstrated experience with lean principles and/or MKPS methodology.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills.
- Ability to interpret financial data, including cost structures, income statements, and balance sheets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
