Role and Team

Job Summary:  Reporting to the Operations Manager or designated manager, direct the activities and personnel involved with transportation operations. Coordinate movement of fleet lease factory and consignment vehicles to and from the auction in accordance with corporate guidelines to ensure maximum production volume in the most profitable way possible.  Perform all duties assigned by the Operations Manager or designated manager.   Must know, practice and ensure that company policies and procedures and state or federal laws are followed at all times by persons under their jurisdiction.

Responsibilities and Duties:  

Provide prompt and courteous service: both on the phone and in person.  Demonstrate friendliness and proper phone etiquette with every customer.  Maintain a professional appearance and a neat work environment consistent with the handbook.

Make sure customers receive prompt, efficient and courteous attention from all employees.

Resolve any customer complaints in a friendly, courteous manner and advise the Operations Manager or designated manager of all serious complaints or incidences. 

Develop freight opportunities throughout the US and Canada and develop transport capability by facilitating contractor services.

Supervise transportation operations at the auction terminal (drivers, trucks and transportation staff), directing the efficient and safe transportation of vehicles to the required destination.

Coordinate transportation activities between auction, customer, office and/or drivers to ensure the auction office can function in the most efficient, productive and profitable manner.

Interview and select Transportation Department employees. 

Develop and train all employees within the Department by company standards and guidelines.  Monitor training conducted and ensure such training is according to company policy and procedures. 

Make sure the Transportation Department is properly staffed at all times.  Control regular and overtime payroll within budgets.

Prepare and conduct performance appraisals for Transportation Department employees per company policy.  Maintain all wage and salary guidelines within the Department.

Maintain and promote positive employee relations and morale whenever possible by practicing sound leadership and human relations principles to promote teamwork at all times.  Set a good personal example of attitude and performance.  Resolve employee relations problems, complaints, suggestions, etc.  Follow through and communicate employee relations problems to the Operations Manager or designated manager.  Evaluate and take positive, consistent, disciplinary action on infractions of company policies and procedures as defined in the employee disciplinary policy.  

Ensure proper follow-through on all directives, bulletins, schedules and accounting from the Operations Manager or designated manager or other corporate sources.  Build teamwork among the employees.  Maintain a good flow of communication with all personnel.

Develop policies and procedures that ensure the efficient operation of the transportation department.

Monitor and ensure compliance with all contractual customer, contractor, and supplier agreements.

Monitor and control all facility conditions, vehicles, property and equipment within corporate standards for cleanliness, proper maintenance and assign cleaning duties to employees.

Advise the Operations Manager or designated manager and Maintenance of all breakdowns and maintenance immediately.  Ensure good routine preventive maintenance. 

Make sure all Transportation Department area conditions do not threaten employee or customer safety.  Respond to and follow proper procedures on employee and customer accidents, injuries, and loss or damage to any property.  Report all incidents to the Operations Manager or designated manager.  Practice and instruct all employees in proper loss prevention and reaction procedures.  Report all incidents properly and immediately.

Educational Requirements and Qualifications:  High School Diploma or GED required with two (2) to three (3) years experience as an administrative and/or operations supervisor in the transportation industry preferred.   Must be qualified to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Automotive background
  • Experience in the Transportation industry preferred
  • High School or GED required
  • College education preferred 
  • Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail
  • Confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive information
  • Proficiency with computer systems and applications
